While the whole world is switching to turbo engines and CVTs with robots for the sake of fuel economy and environmental friendliness, give us good old aspirated, mechanics and a classic hydromechanical automatic machine. However, these are not the only quirks.

Turbo engines

Despite the fact that even recently more and more cars are equipped with turbo engines, we still dislike them, believing that an atmospheric engine is obviously more reliable and maintainable. To some extent, this is true.

This is why turbocharged cars are less popular when new. And even less on the secondary. If a person has a choice: take a Chevrolet Cruze with an atmospheric 1.8 for 140 hp. or 1.4 turbo for the same 140 hp, the majority will choose the first option, despite the higher fuel consumption and worse dynamics.

If the model does not have a choice between atmospheric and turbo engines, then it's not so bad, but when there is a choice, turbo modifications will always be less liquid.

Variators and robots

A similar story with robots and CVTs. They are feared and try to avoid as much as possible. Simply put, if there is a modification with a classic machine gun, then it is better to take it. You will see, the demand for Seltos with a machine gun will be greater than for Seltos with a CVT and a robot. And it's not about the price.

The same story with Rav4. Cars with an automatic on the secondary are valued higher and sold faster than cars with CVTs.

Bright colours

I don't know why, but since the days of the USSR, when “nines” began to be painted in “wet asphalt” color, shades of gray began to be valued more than yellow, red, green, blue cars. Any trade-in manager will tell you that selling a gray car (white, black, metallic silver) is much easier and faster than a bright one. Therefore, by the way, cars of bright colors are valued at a lower amount than gray ones.

Remember how cool the advertising Lada Vesta looked in lime color? And where are these cars now? Everything, no. Because it wasn't in demand. The grayer the better for people.

coupe

Two- and three-doors are much harder to sell than five-doors and sedans. The target audience of such machines is much smaller, and this is the problem. Even the lower price doesn't help.

Powerful Premium

If you look at the aftermarket car market lately, you can see one very strange thing – cars more powerful than 250 hp. often cost less than less powerful modifications. And the older the car, the more noticeable this feature.

When the car is new, a person does not worry much about vehicle tax and insurance, because these are trifles compared to the cost of the car itself. But fifteen years later, when the price of a car falls three or four times and is comparable to the cost of state employees, the new owner is already straining the high tax, because 30,000 taxes is already a significant amount.

Simply put, it is much easier to sell a 249-horsepower crossover on the secondary market than a 270-horsepower one. And those who want to buy a car with 203 hp. much less under the hood than with 199 hp

China

It is often said about Chinese cars that they are for life, because you can’t sell them later. The situation is gradually changing, but so far it is really more difficult to sell a Chinese than a Korean or a Japanese. Especially if this Chinese with a robot and a turbo engine.

The Chinese auto industry has not yet proven its reliability and quality, so there is little demand for them on the secondary market.

tuning

Tuned cars, be it sports tuning, off-road or amateur, sell worse than stock. People are afraid of problems with reliability, resource. They have questions about how the previous owner operated the car, how they would react to such tuning in the traffic police.

rare cars

Here I mean sports cars, and just rare brands and models. For example, Seat is much less in demand than Volkswagen, although they are technically copies of each other. It is also quite difficult to sell any Iran Khordo Samand or Pontiac.

French people

This item is pure stereotypical. French cars are no worse than others, but everyone knows the sayings about the French and has heard a lot about their alleged unreliability, high cost and non-standard.

However, despite the stereotype, the Peugeot 308 is more difficult to sell on the secondary market than the Ford Focus, and the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso is more difficult than the Ford Galaxy.

Our country is a slightly specific country in terms of the automotive market.
