New Ulyanovsk SUVs, especially in top trim levels with automatic transmission, are often compared with used Toyota Land Cruise<\/a>rs. For the price of a new UAZ Patriot, you can pick up a well-groomed 10-year-old Land Cruiser Prado or a 15-year-old Land Cruiser 100 (the latter are much less common), and the funny thing is, the Japanese with a mileage of 150-200 thousand kilometers are comparable to a bezprobezhny UAZ, not only in terms of cost, but also by the number of potential problems and defects.<\/p>\n

Approximately the same ratio is observed in the more affordable segment, a novice jeeper can choose between a 25-year-old Land Cruiser 80 of varying degrees of “weakness” and Patriots aged 5-10 years and with a mileage of 100 thousand or more. Using the example of this green pickup truck in 2015, I will show in what form the UAZ Patriot met a mileage of 174 thousand km:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SUV has been actively operated by one individual for all 5 years and, on the whole, looks relatively well-groomed. His “peers” after legal entities and 3-4 ordinary owners often look more sad and require a major overhaul of the units. In 2015, an electronically controlled Dymos transfer<\/a> case was already installed on UAZs, and this is traditionally a weak point of the domestic SUV. This instance has an intermittent AWD malfunction indicator light, and the front axle and downshift will not engage. The problem may be in the wiring or the control panel<\/a> itself:<\/p>\n

The engine, obviously, was serviced according to the regulations, runs smoothly and does not smoke. Otherwise, a typical set of problems for a five-year-old domestic car is antifreeze leakage through low-quality rubber pipes of the cooling system; leaks and fogging of the engine at all joints, gaskets and the oil filler cap; implement belt noise:<\/p>\n

For 5 years, the frame and the bottom of the Patriot were covered with an even layer of “rye”, but there are no outright rot, cracks and “holes” yet. Surprisingly, the body and frame number, although with traces of corrosion, is still readable; If you are familiar with American SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe or Cadillac Escalade, you may have seen cars with rotten frame numbers even at the age of three:<\/p>\n

Corrosion attacked both the rear wall of the cab and the cargo platform. If you constantly ride with a kung and do not fight the “bugs”, then in a few years the situation can be brought to a complete corrosion damage:<\/p>\n

What is even more unpleasant, the lower parts and corners of the doors are rusting. Approximately in the same places, the doors on the Volga rotted (remember the branded bent corners on rusty doors?) of our fathers and grandfathers, and such corrosion can be fully localized only with the help of sandblasting and painting using modern primers. I wonder if the “cataphoresis” advertised by the plant will help the new UAZs?<\/p>\n
