This car is chosen for its quality and price. Indeed, for a small cost, the buyer receives a completely reliable and resourceful car. But in order for the car to really pass many kilometers without problems, it needs to be checked regularly. So, today we will pay attention to such a problem as changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission.

How often to change?

You need to understand that the oil in the automatic transmission is the working fluid. Unlike mechanics, where only the function of lubricating parts is performed, here the ATP fluid performs the function of adhesion, and also circulates through the channels of the valve body under pressure up to 5 bar. The burden placed on him is enormous. Therefore, you should not think that this oil, like mechanics, is filled for the entire service life (although many advise replacing it with a manual transmission).

What is the frequency of changing the oil in the automatic transmission “Hyundai Solaris”? The official distributor gives the following answer. Checking the ATP fluid level in the Solaris automatic box must be carried out every 60 thousand kilometers. And the oil change period in the Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission is 90 thousand.

But many experts recommend reducing these terms by 20 thousand kilometers. And all because the manufacturer considers mileage, not hours. Indeed, the engine often stalls (as does the gearbox), especially when driving through traffic jams. Therefore, if the operation is predominantly urban, the oil change period in the Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission should be reduced to 60 thousand.

About overheating

Under heavy load conditions, the oil may overheat. And Hyundai Solaris cars are no exception. In these vehicles, the ATF liquid cooling radiator is manufactured together with the antifreeze heat exchanger. And if for an engine a temperature of 95 degrees is not so terrible, then for an automatic machine 115 is already a critical value. Here is how the properties of liquid ATP change depending on the heating temperature:

115 degrees Lacquer release occurs.

125 degree hardened seals.

150 degrees Clutch slip.

160 degrees. There is a destruction of oil seals and friction discs, the release of soot.

Therefore, the design provides a special oil sensor to control the temperature. It needs to be controlled. Some even install an additional oil sensor to know exactly what the temperature of the ATF fluid is. If this parameter is close to 110 degrees, turn off the motor and wait until the case cools down. Otherwise, there is a risk of failure of the automatic transmission elements.

How is oil checked on Solaris?

Earlier we noted that you periodically need to see the level. But how to do that? This operation is carried out in several stages:

The case warms up to operating temperatures. This is a mandatory procedure that is carried out before checking the oil. To do this, it is enough to drive 2-3 kilometers or keep the engine idling for about five minutes.

The car is on a level surface.

Wait about seven minutes for the oil to crystallize in the pan.

The hood opens and the probe is removed (it is located on the right).

The oil level must be between the lower and upper marks.

Wipe the sensor with a clean cloth and reinstall it. Then again we receive and analyze the data.

It is important to pay attention to the condition of the oil itself. Ideally, the liquid should be red. If it's black, that's a bad sign. Not the best sign and characteristic smell of burning. This indicates overheating of the case. The oil may also contain metal dust or other deposits.

In this case, the oil change in the Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission must be carried out immediately. The sooner this is done, the more chances to save the box.

What is the best oil to use?

From the factory, Hyundai ATF SP III fluid is poured into this car. However, it is not necessary to buy original automatic transmission oil. There are many good analogues on the market. What is the best oil to use? It could be a product:

Shell”.

“Zick”.

Chevron.

But it is important that it is an automatic transmission oil and that it meets SP III tolerances. There are also generic products. But such transmission fluids can only be used if the package contains the SP III standard.

What volume should be?

It all depends on the method of changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission. So, the filling volume in the box itself is 6.8 liters. But with a partial replacement, only four liters are required. And in the case of full, up to nine. But the latter method is possible only with a special apparatus, that is, at a gas station.

note

In addition to the ATF fluid, you must purchase the original oil filter. It has the article number 46321-23001. You can change the oil in a Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission without a filter.

However, this will be a minor operation. Experts recommend changing both the oil and the filter. This is the only way to ensure long and trouble-free operation of the transmission.

How to replace?

Consider the case of changing the oil in a Hyundai Solaris automatic transmission with a filter and additional flushing. This operation is performed in several steps:

The box and the motor warm up to operating temperatures.

The machine is installed on a viewing hole. An ordinary flat surface will not work, as access to the bottom is needed.

The hood opens and the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick is removed.

With a key of 17, the drain plug of the box pan is unscrewed from below. At this point, it is important not to lose the special o-ring.

Next, an empty container with a volume of about four liters is installed under the hole.

We are waiting for the oil to drain. They can be three or four liters.

The plug is screwed on (the presence of an o-ring is checked first).

Using a 10 socket wrench, the bolts holding the automatic transmission pan are unscrewed. There are only 18 of them.

Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry off the tray. It is important to remember that it is installed on a sealant and you will have to try to disassemble it. In this case, the mating surfaces of the box body and pallet cannot be damaged.

The pan is removed, the remaining oil is drained. The element is then treated with a flushing liquid. It could be a normal carburetor.

The palette is dried with a clean cloth.

Turn out bolts of fastening of the filter. The latter has special magnets-latches; it is important not to lose them. These magnets must be repositioned in a new filter.

The new filter is installed in place of the old one.

A sealant is applied to the mating flats of the crankcase and automatic transmission pan. First, the surface must be thoroughly degreased and cleaned of the slightest contamination.

After the sealant has dried, install the flooring in place. About four liters of oil are poured through the dipstick. It must be glass.

Another liter of oil is added.

There is a hose in the box that goes from the gearbox to the radiator. It must be unscrewed and lowered into a transparent container.

The gear selector is set to the parking mode, the car is put on the parking brake. The engine starts.

Dirty oil should go into a container (no more than a liter).

The engine is turned off, the hose is installed in place and a liter of new oil is poured through the dipstick.

About full hardware replacement

How is this operation performed? Its essence is as follows:

The car is driven into the elevator.

The master drains the oil, unscrews the pan and changes the filter.

Next, the hose fittings that go to the ATF liquid cooling radiator are unscrewed.

These ports are connected to the inlet and outlet hoses of the machine, pre-charged with liquid ATP.

Specialists turn on the engine and the device itself. Then the device starts replacing the old fluid with a new one. This procedure takes no more than ten minutes.

When the color of the fluid in the inlet and outlet hoses is the same red, the machine will shut down.

Then the craftsmen install the standard hoses back onto the radiator and lower the car from the lift.

The replacement procedure is considered complete.

The advantage of this method is that a complete replacement of the fluid with a new one is carried out in a short time. But the operation requires special equipment, so it can only be carried out at the service station. Yes, and the cost of work will be an order of magnitude higher. Therefore, many motorists prefer to use the first method, which can be repeated on their own.

Conclusion

So, we found out how the ATP fluid is replaced on Solaris. As you can see, this job can be done in several ways. But in any case, you need to follow the rules.

Hyundai Solaris is a very common economy class car in recent years.
