Europe was the top market for the first generation Niro, with 88,843 units sold there last year, according to CarSalesBase. By the way, this is an absolute record achieved by the &#8220;first&#8221; Nero at the end of his career. Even the Kia Sportage, which was one of the growth leaders in Europe in 2021, is slightly behind with 85,509 units sold.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb207b3f8.webp\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"SDStudio-light-box-enable SDStudio-editor-tools-md-imp\" src=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb207b3f8.webp\" alt=\"Details from the new Kia Niro: hybrids without reverse gear and longer-range EV\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;second&#8221; Niro has every chance to repeat and increase the success of its predecessor. With the change of generations, Niro has become a little larger (total length &#8211; 4420 mm, wheelbase &#8211; 2720 mm) and much more original in terms of design thanks to intricate &#8220;optics&#8221; and large contrasting inserts on the walls and sides of the body. The interior has become smarter and more spacious due to the dual-screen prismatic &#8220;scoreboard&#8221; (diagonal of each section 10.25 inches) and recycled trim materials &#8211; this is now loved in Europe. Today, an important addition has appeared: the reverse gear has been removed from the box and now the electric motor is responsible for the reverse. Getting rid of &#8220;extra&#8221; gears allowed to reduce the weight of the transmission by 2.3 kg. The maximum combined power of the hybrid is 141 hp. Trunk volume &#8211; 451 liters (with the rear seat folded &#8211; 1445 liters).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb2bbe233.webp\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"SDStudio-light-box-enable SDStudio-editor-tools-md-imp\" src=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb2bbe233.webp\" alt=\"Details from the new Kia Niro: hybrids without reverse gear and longer-range EV\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Niro Plug-in Hybrid PHEV is built the same as the Plug-in HEV, but of course has a larger traction battery with a high-voltage thermal management system that reduces trunk volume to 351 liters (1342 liters rear seat folded). The plug-in hybrid electric motor produces 84 hp. (in the first generation it was 60.5 hp), the total power of the power plant is 183 hp. The only electric motor on the front axle is the same, with a power of 204 hp. Power reserve on a single charge &#8211; 463 km on the WLTP cycle (in the previous generation &#8211; 455 km). The Niro EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km\/h in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 167 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb3049b8c.webp\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"SDStudio-light-box-enable SDStudio-editor-tools-md-imp\" src=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb3049b8c.webp\" alt=\"Details from the new Kia Niro: hybrids without reverse gear and longer-range EV\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trunk volume Niro EV is 475 liters (1392 liters with the rear seat folded down), and an additional 20-liter compartment has appeared in front, in which it is convenient to store cargo &#8220;ammunition&#8221;. The permitted towing weight for the Niro EV is 750 kg and for the hybrids it is 1300 kg.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb3194808.webp\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"SDStudio-light-box-enable SDStudio-editor-tools-md-imp\" src=\"https:\/\/auto.inform.com.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/post-197659-624ffb3194808.webp\" alt=\"Details from the new Kia Niro: hybrids without reverse gear and longer-range EV\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new Kia Niro will appear in European showrooms this summer, prices have not yet been announced.
