\ufeff\ufeffThe agreement to transfer<\/a> the German brand Alpina (not to be confused with the French Alpine) to the BMW Group will enter into force in early 2026, and the existing tuning studio will be renamed Bovensiepen.<\/p>\n

Alpina (full name Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH + Co. KG) from the Bavarian city of Buchloe was founded in 1965 by a German engineer and businessman Burkard Bovensiepen, its main profile was the engineering tuning of BMW models, in 1983 the studio received the status of a car manufacturer. Now the company is run by the sons of the founder: Florian and Andreas Bovensiepen. Things are going well in the face of growing global demand for exclusive cars, and last year Alpina set another sales record with more than 2,000 vehicles sold.<\/p>\n

The sale of the Alpina brand to a historical partner of the BMW Group is a solution not from poverty, but from hopelessness: in the context of tightening the rules for environmental certification of new cars and the gradual abandonment of internal combustion diesel engines in developed countries, Alpina's long-term competencies will not be in demand on the market. Translated from marketing<\/a> into Russian, this means that the Bovenzipen brothers do not want to tune electric cars, since in terms of hardware there is nothing to tune in them, and cosmetic tuning is not Alpina's level, they have always been engaged in engineering, and the services of Alpina wipers were in demand inside the BMW Group itself.<\/p>\n

Florian and Andreas Bovenzipen<\/p>\n

Given the long-term cooperation between Alpina and BMW, the Bovensiepen brothers decided not to enter the market with an offer to sell the brand, but immediately chose the BMW Group as a buyer. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed, it is only known that it will be closed only at the end of 2015, when the current cooperation agreement between Alpina and BMW ends. Accordingly, at the beginning of 2016, the Alpina brand will become part of the BMW Group, but what exactly the BMW Group will do with it, what cars it will offer under it, is still unknown.<\/p>\n

Until the end of 2015, several new Alpina models developed in Buchloe will see the light, and after that, part of the studio's employees will go to work at BMW. The Bovensiepen brothers will continue in the automotive business, but in Bovensiepen they will repair and restore classic BMW and Alpina models. The engineering hotel<\/a> in Bukhloi will be preserved, its experience and services will be available to everyone, not just BMW. Cooperation with BMW will also continue, but it is not yet clear in what form.<\/p>\n

The sale of the Alpina car brand will not affect the family wine business, which is run by Alpina Wein GmbH + Co. KG and is based in Bukhly itself (although the name of this city is more suitable for the wine business than for the automotive business). Alpina Wein sells wine, not produces, so you won't see the Alpina brand on the bottles.
