The fact is that the three-wheeled Morgan does not need too much power – tea is not a Puma ST crossover: the target curb weight is only half a ton, so there should be no extra parts, and 120-130 “horses” in the atmospheric version of the engine will be enough for him. Exact specifications have not yet been announced. S&S Cycle with two liters of working volume gave out only 83 hp, and after the last adaptation to the Euro 4 environmental standard, the power fell to 69 hp,

In its latest note, Autocar magazine reports that the new engine will be paired with the previous 5-speed manual gearbox from the Mazda MX-5 roadster, that is, rear-wheel drive will remain, although it was possible, following the example of three-wheeled American Vanderhall sports cars, to switch to the front along with the “transverse” Ford box.

The engine is now located not outside, but inside the car, since the cooling of the Ford unit is liquid, and not air, like in the S&S Cycle. Under the new motor, I had to make a completely new body (of course, on a wooden frame) and provide for ledges for two side radiators. At the same time, the developers decided to make the body a little more practical, namely, they provided for it several options for windshields and hanging luggage. But there will be no retractable roof, the maximum is a cape covering the cockpit from the rain in the parking lot.

New Morgan 3 Wheeler

Morgan Motor Company CEO Steve Morris, cited by Autocar, is confident the new 3 Wheeler will be a bestseller both in the UK and overseas and will outsell all Morgan four-wheelers combined. The 3 Wheeler's motorcycle class will make it easier to certify in various markets.

As for the electric 3 Wheeler, which the company announced back in 2015, but was never able to put into production due to problems with the battery supplier, Steve Morris is not eager to run ahead of the locomotive, that is, to produce such a model long before the ban on internal combustion engines in UK in 2030. That is, Morgan will make gasoline cars for as long as possible, and is not shy about its role as a catch-up in the overall race for electrification.

Sales of the new Morgan 3 Wheeler will begin in 2022, the exact date of the full-fledged premiere has not yet been announced, but in any case, it will not be long to wait.

The legendary British trikolka is back and, contrary to the rampant fashion for “greening”, not in the form of an electric car, but with a 1.5-liter Ford EcoBoost gasoline engine, from which turbocharging was unscrewed especially for Morgan.
