Some changes, indeed, radically changed the behavior of the car, others were completely useless. Not only did they not improve performance, but on the contrary, worsened them.

Content

1 What does this clarification promise?

2 reality related to the tuned front stabilizer

3 rear stabilizer

4 How, then, to improve the suspension of the classics?

One of the modern ways to improve the handling characteristics of the VAZ classic is to install a double stabilizer bar on the front axle, and an additional anti-roll bar on the rear axle.

Does he promise such a clarification?

And those who sell such “tuning” parts to unsuspecting buyers, and those who have already installed them on their car, shout with one voice that the car was unrecognizable. In fact, loud screams are often not that significant, and the most false.

Those interested in this version of the chassis usually know from sources of information that the supposed main advantages of installing stabilizers are:

The flimsy undercarriage of the car becomes more rigid due to additional stabilizers that can suppress backlash and vibrations of the entire structure.

Improved stabilizers allegedly reduce the car's side roll in corners.

Thanks to the installation of these elements, the machine behaves more stable at high speeds.

Well, having heard the loud arguments in favor of installing these elements, it is time to talk about how things are not only in theory, but in practice, and this gives stabilizers what not.

Reality connected with the tuned front stabilizer

Installing a front suspension stabilizer, you will not only improve the behavior of the car, but on the contrary, reduce its level of comfort. The fact that the front suspension of classic Lada models is independent. Reinforced stabilizer, double or stabilizer, which gives greater rigidity, in comparison with the factory, makes the suspension not independent and semi-independent or even dependent.

Explain that in independent suspension, changing the angle of, for example, the left wheel does not affect the position of the right hand. In dependent suspension, changing the position of any of the wheels affects the position of the wheels located on the opposite side. Simply put, when installing a double front stabilizer bar on a classic, you significantly impair the performance of the suspension, limit the course of its work. Not only that the car will be much more difficult, and its permeability will decrease.

Of course, the stabilizer reduces the roll of the car, but, again, you have to sacrifice for the sake of the comfort and flotation of the car. Is the game worth the candle?

Rear anti-roll bar

Installing a rear sway bar on a classic is a more useless move, even compared to upgrading the front suspension i.e. fitting a dual front sway bar.

And again, to understand this, you need to remember the rear suspension of the classics. On the classics, this is a bridge for subsequent generations – a torsion beam. What is dependent suspension. This means that the stabilizer on the rear axle is not needed, since the design of the running gear already gives maximum rigidity. Unfortunately, many car enthusiasts do not know this, continuing to spend money on such useless parts instead of working on really vulnerable parts.

How then to improve the suspension of the classics?

In addition to the obligation to replace the anti-roll bars, there are smarter options. First of all, it is worth replacing the jet rods, suspension bushings. These elements are the most flimsy of the entire car chassis structure. Having made such a revision, you can move on to replacing shock absorbers, springs, which also provide greater rigidity. Finally, to achieve the maximum effect, you can take care of the installation of braces, as the body of the classics is especially unstable.

In this and only in this case, it is possible to really improve the suspension of VAZ cars, and the idea with stabilizers is a waste of time and money. But that is not all. As much as you would not like to believe in the best, but no matter how much effort, money and details VAZ invest, it will never surpass all cars, even the economy class, with the same quality.

Over the years, the classic VAZ models, the owners of these cars have come up with many ways how to improve the factory configuration of the car, both in terms of dynamics and in terms of driving characteristics.
