\ufeff\ufeffThe Nissan Qashqai's sister SUV will only be available in mild hybrid form and for all intents and purposes, at least in Europe.<\/p>\n

This Renault cross has already come across spies more than once – it was believed that the company was testing the next generation of Kadjar. But a month ago, the SUV was officially announced and it turned out that the model is called Austral. The name has nothing to do with Australia at all: it comes from the Latin “australis”, which means “southern”, and, as conceived by marketers, should evoke “emotions and warmth of the southern hemisphere.” The Kadjar was never successful, unlike its sister, the previous Nissan Qashqai. Now, Renault has released official photos of the pre-production SUV, although it hasn't lost its disguise yet. In addition, the first details about the technique appeared.<\/p>\n

Recall that the crossover has a new name, but, like Kadjar, it is a relative of the third generation Nissan Qashqai, that is, both are based on a modified CMF-C \/ D platform. At the same time, Austral is larger than both its predecessor and the fresh Nissan: its length is 4.51 meters (the indicator of the “third” Qashqai is 4.42 m, Qajar is 4.49 m). Renault novelty will be offered to Europeans only with hybrid installations. There will be two “light” hybrids: with a 1.3 TCe turbo engine and a 12-volt starter-generator and with a 1.2 TCe turbo engine and a 48-volt starter-generator. Austral's flagship is a full hybrid E-Tech with 200 hp.<\/p>\n

As for the design<\/a>, the SUV will have a narrow and complex diode optics (branded “branches” are sealed with a film), as well as a new emblem of the brand (the former was tested with cross-hatching Megane E-Technician). And in the spy shots, a radiator grill with vertical wedges was still visible. The interior, however, has not yet been exhibited, and therefore it is clear that virtual “cleanliness” and a multimedia system with a large display will be installed inside.<\/p>\n

Renault also noted that the Austral has entered the final testing phase, with about 100 vehicles to cover a total of 2 million kilometers, of which 600,000 will be on normal roads in France, Spain, Germany and Romania.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the new SUV will celebrate its premiere in the spring of 2022. And later, according to unofficial data, two related Austral crossovers will appear simultaneously: presumably, a three-row SUV will debut in 2023, and an analogue of a coupe in 2024. But it is not yet known whether they will have analogues with the Nissan brand.<\/p>\n
