\ufeff\ufeffPhotos of the BMW i3 electric sedan, which will hit the market in the coming months, along with an upgraded conventional “three-ruble bill” with an internal combustion engine, have appeared in the electronic database of the Ministry of Industry of the People's Republic of China.<\/p>\n

China is the main market for the BMW 3 Series: from January to October of this year, according to CarSalesBase, 146,799 copies of this model were sold here, which is 28.3% more than in the same period in 2020 – this is the best result in the segment premium mid-size sedans (Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 sold worse – 109,020 and 103,920 units, respectively, in the first ten months of this year). Recall that in China, “three-ruble banknotes” of local production are offered with an elongated step and the prefix L to the name, but in general, the current generation of the Bavarian bestseller G20 has been known since the fall of 2018, when its world premiere took place in Paris.<\/p>\n

the time has come for the planned restyling of the G20, but the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Trade so far has only an electric version of the i3, made, apparently, according to the same recipe as the Chinese BMW iX3. In the global market, the i3 has been offering a subcompact electric sedan with an eccentric design<\/a> and a high-tech body with many carbon fiber components for nine years, but this advanced model will soon disappear from the scene, and the i3 will replace it with an electric “duty” of the Series 3. About this replacement was known in November last year, and now we can study it.<\/p>\n

\"Electric<\/a><\/p>\n

The new BMW i3 looks, in fact, the same as a regular three-ruble bill, the electric car inside it has only nostrils marked with blue caps and edging, plus a special design of the rear bumper without pipes with an “electric blue” decor. “Other innovations are likely to be common to all ‘three-ruble bills', namely new headlights without cutouts at the bottom, a redesigned front bumper with larger side pieces, and decorative \u2018sticks\u2019 on the sides in the style of the old 5 Series and Series 7 (the i4 electric liftback also has such “clubs”). The design of the taillights does not appear to have changed.<\/p>\n

On the back of the new i3 is the eDrive35 L badge – Chinese media write that this means the only electric motor on the rear axle with a capacity of 250 kW (340 hp). The air suspension is announced in the kit of the electric sedan, the dimensions have increased slightly, there are no details yet. Images of the interior are also missing, but it will most likely be the same as the BMW i4, that is, it will receive a new two-screen display.<\/p>\n

\"Electric<\/a><\/p>\n

But the main intrigue is not in technology, but in how global the Chinese electric “three-ruble note” will be and whether it will be at all. We believe it could be brought to Europe in the same way as the BMW iX3 (only offered in rear-wheel drive), but America will most likely be waiting for a brand new electric “triple bill” that will debut around 2025 – it will have a platform with more advanced electromobility and a range of about 600 km on a single charge.<\/p>\n

But BMW's i7 flagship electric sedan is sure to go global: previews are expected in the coming months.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
