The tested Defender (the base price of the car was $48,990) was equipped with a third row of seats, since the base of the car allows it. Changes touched the interior and air conditioning system, but the six-speed gearbox, permanent four-wheel drive with forced locking of the center and center differential, rubber floor mats and everything else remained unchanged.

When you buy a Land Rover, just like a Hummer, you buy the brand and its historical status. In the case of the Defender, this is the only possible variant of a real military all-wheel drive SUV offered on the world market. If you want luxury and prestige, while not wanting to part with all-wheel drive, then look at other models of the brand, such as Freelander, Discovery or Range Rover. The 2.4-liter power unit fully complies with EURO4 standards for CO2 consumption and emissions within 291 grams per kilometer. Land Rover had to make some changes to make the engine suitable for extreme off-road adventures. For example, some components such as how the air conditioning compressor was moved as high as possible out of harm's way – hence the characteristic hump on the hood of the car. The manufacturer claims maximum power of 90kW at 3500rpm and peak torque of 360Nm at 2000rpm, although most torque is available between 1500-2700rpm.

Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 11.1 l/100 km. For comparison, the 4-cylinder turbo-diesel fitted to the Nissan Patrol DX generates 118kW of power with 380Nm of torque. If you look at the updated dashboard, you will probably immediately notice that it was partially borrowed from the Discovery 3, and more specifically elements such as the audio and air conditioning controls. A new CD radio and cloth-covered seats offer comfort. But some Land Rover sores will probably never go away – the shifter is very close to the leg, and getting in / out is still difficult. But it should be noted that Land Rover sticks to its roots and is clearly not going to make the Defender comfortable. The third-row seats are separated and a passage between the seats allows access to the rear cargo door. It's unusual but very comfortable and all five passengers have three-point seat belts. The new generation Defender is equipped with ABS (anti-lock brake system) and electronic traction control. On city streets, the behavior of the gearbox and steering is noticeably heavier. On the highway, the engine is quite noisy and driving at high speed gives some inconvenience. It is clear that the Defender is not a city car, but a classic SUV. His real element is the endless off-road, where he will show his true characteristics. The new generation Defender is equipped with ABS (anti-lock brake system) and electronic traction control.
