There was a poll at the end, but it is still too early to talk about its results. Therefore, today I propose to discuss why the new Solaris is better than the old Mercedes?

In general, this is obvious to me: a new car, albeit a lower class, always outperforms an old car, even a premium brand. But people in the comments do not agree, so we will devote a separate article to this issue.

I emphasize: I'm talking about a new purchase: both a brand new Solaris from the salon, and an old Mercedes in the secondary market. When this same “Mercedes” has been in your hands since new for all 10 years, this is a completely different situation, and today we will not touch it.

However, in the words of a well-known blogger: let's not smear porridge on a plate, and let's start! (Whoever guesses the name of this blogger in the comments first will receive a small but nice bonus from me on his phone).?

So, why is the new Solaris better than the 10-year-old Mercedes?

1 Predictability

A new car, no matter what brand it is (the main thing is not UAZ or Lifan), is always very predictable. What I mean? First of all, the fact that the car will not give you unpleasant surprises at the most inopportune moments. That is, the probability of serious damage is minimal.

Of course, no one has canceled the factory marriage and children's sores of new models, but still getting into a trouble with a new car is still something you need to try.

For whom this parameter will be especially important, it is for those who travel a lot, as well as for busy people whose time is more valuable than money. After all, in the event of a breakdown, you need to carry out diagnostics, go to the service, look for spare parts, etc. All this is a waste of not only money, but also time.

2 Security

I understand that now rotten tomatoes will probably fly at me, but still: modern cars are always safer than old ones.

– How so? Can a Solaris be safer than a Mercedes? – you will be indignant. And I will answer you: maybe if this Mercedes is already 10 years old.

The fact is that technology in any field does not stand still. And car safety is no exception. Both active and passive safety systems are improved every year. Crash tests of well-known expert companies also mutate, adapting to the current situation. Therefore, there can be quite a significant difference in safety between a car manufactured in 2020 and a car manufactured in 2010.

I understand that we are comparing an old, but premium car and a new, but budget one. But still: time takes its toll. And there is no getting away from this.

3 Equipment

Another parameter for which time is also critical is options.

What 10 years ago was the prerogative of expensive cars can now easily be found in the same Solaris.

I bet that in a 10-year-old Mercedes there will most likely not be a speakerphone via Bluetooth, and you will probably have to look for USB there.

The same with the heated steering wheel, the color screen of the on-board computer, etc.

There is also a point of price. In German cars, you have to pay extra for each button. And not all the first buyers could and wanted to do it.

A specific example: at one time I had two Opel Astras one after the other. Both machines were 2011 and neither had a single USB port. I bought them on the “secondary” in 2015 and 2016, and even then it bothered me a little.

I think everyone understood what I mean.

4 Cheap maintenance

What could be worse than servicing an old premium car? Yes, in any service they will try to rip you off to the fullest! And if some serious damage happens, then the price tag may well become six figures…

Premium cars always have very complex electronics, many different sensors, etc. etc.

With the new Solaris, everything is much simpler: go through maintenance with a predetermined frequency. You can buy spare parts yourself, and their prices are cheap. Everything is as simple as two and two.

4 Liquidity

This parameter is not as unambiguous as the previous ones, but still. After driving for 2-3 years, it will always be easier to sell a two- or three-year-old car than a twelve- or thirteen-year-old.

Although… To be honest, I myself now, when I wrote this text, thought about it. Help me, please, find the answer in the comments: what will be faster and easier to sell: a three-year-old Solaris or a 13-year-old Mercedes?

5 Clean history

A new car from the salon is always a clean car without pitfalls. There are, of course, exceptions in our country, but they are very rare.

Any car bought now in the secondary market in recent times is a mystery. After all, we do not punish mileage twisting, forgery of service books, outbidding, etc. in any way.

And even a lot of services that have appeared in recent years that collect maximum information about mileage, repairs, accidents, insurance payments, etc. from various sources. is not a panacea. Especially in regions…

When buying a used car, you can never be 100% sure of it. I have experienced this many times in my own experience.

——-

I note that I just took Solaris and Mercedes as an example. And I don't advertise Hyundai or Mercedes. In their place, you can easily put, for example, “Skoda Rapid” and some kind of “BMW”. Or KIA Rio and Lexus. The essence of this will not change much: we will still compare the new budget car of the B-class and the old premium.

——-

In my operation since 2005, there were 10 different cars. 6 of them were bought new, and 4 – in the secondary market. If you ask me now: which is better? That is my answer: definitely a new car. But it wasn't always like that…

And, of course, a used Mercedes also has advantages over a brand new Solaris from the salon. We will talk about them next time.

——-

Hello dear audience!
