Lotus is preparing its first crossover: the company has published a couple of teasers
So far, the model is known under the internal index Type 132. Probably, the official name of the novelty will be Lambda.
Lotus has been thinking about its SUV segment since at least 2006 when the APX show car debuted. True, this project is nothing more than a concept. Recall that a few years ago, the manufacturer Lotus Cars was bought by the large Chinese holding company Geely, which now also owns the Volvo brand. With the advent of the new owner, Lotus has changed, including the tasks, in particular, it was about expanding the model range through a crossover.
Patent images of the first SUV appeared on the web in the fall of 2017, and it was previously reported that the production car would be called Lambda. So far, the car is officially known under the internal index Type 132. It is expected that it will enter the market in 2022. The company launched a teaser campaign.
As we already reported, the first Lotus crossover will be an electric car. The only published photo and a small video teaser shows only the front of the future novelty, and even then not quite. Thus, you can see a fragment of the air intake and a “piece" of a splitter made of carbon fiber. Judging by the design of these elements, the model will be decorated using geometric shapes (triangles).

The plug, which will take the place of the traditional radiator grille, has active ribs that, by changing position, help either reduce air resistance (in the closed position) or further cool the electric motors. There is still no official information about the "stuffing" of the first "electrocrossover" Lotus. According to the British edition of Autocar, the Lambda will only have all-wheel drive versions with a twin engine. It is assumed that the maximum power of the system will be 761 hp. Acceleration from standstill to “hundreds” of such an SUV will probably take no more than three seconds. To choose a model, it is supposed to offer a pair of traction units of different power – for 90 and 120 kW * h; the maximum cruising range in the second case will be about 650 km.

The company intends to launch the production of the Lotus Lambda crossover at the factories of the Geely holding, located in Wuhan (China). About a year after the premiere of the novelty, in 2023, they promise to debut an SUV, known under the factory index Type 133. It is known that this model will be a coupe version of Lambda. Subsequently, in 2026, a “green” sports car with the Type 135 index will appear on the company’s conveyor belt in Hethel (Norfolk, England) (developed jointly with Alpine).
