Borgward BX5 – Borgward’s second crossover

The production version of the Borgward BX5 compact car was presented at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2016. The Borgward BX5 crossover is the second model of the revived Borgward AG brand, the first-born, as we know, was the Borgward BX7. Sales of the new compact crossover Borgward BX5 in China will begin in March 2017 at a price of 120,000-180,000 yuan (1065-1600 thousand conventional units).
I want to note right away that the production version of the BX5 model is almost an exact copy of the prototype – the Borgward BX5 concept, shown in the spring of 2016 with a month difference at the Geneva International Motor Show and the Beijing Motor Show.
There is a modern body exterior design with an expressive front end formed by a stylish grille, compact LED headlights and a massive bumper with original fog LED daytime running lights.
On the side of the novelties, the body defiantly demonstrates the curvaceous wheel arches and doors, the high-raised aft window sill line and the sloping roof, the coupe-shaped Stern with a strong slope of the C-pillar.
Behind the new crossover it looks attractive and original: neat ceiling lights with LED fill horizontal ones and emphasize the splendor of the stern shapes, a compact tailgate – like a sports coupe, a massive bumper with large fog lights, dressed in protective plastic.
The plastic body kit, of course, is present around the entire perimeter of the body – from the front bumper to the edges of the wheel arches and sills, to the rear bumper.
- The external dimensions of the 2017-2018 Borgward BX5 body are 4490 mm long, 1877 mm wide, 1675 mm high with a 2.685 mm wheelbase and 190 mm ground clearance.
- The standard crossover is equipped with 18-inch wheels (sadly less stylish than those installed on the Borgward BX5 concept) with 225/60 P18 tires.
Compared to the first-born, the second Borgward BX7, the Borgward Borgward AG model in the New BX5 has more modest external body dimensions (less than 225 mm long, 33 mm wide, 15 mm high and less than 75 mm base size), but the novelty is positioned as a compact sports coupe-shaped crossover. It’s hard to disagree that the BX5 body really does look sporty and dynamic.
The first photos of the interior of the new Borgward BX5 compact crossover were able to fully convey the atmosphere of the modern interior of the news. Before us is a car in the maximum configuration with leather trim, a digital instrument panel, a multifunctional steering wheel, a 10-inch color screen of a multimedia system, climate control and a full range of additional equipment and electronic assistants, heated steering wheel and all seats, electric first row seats, cruise -control, electronic handbrake, 9 airbags, parking sensors and surround view system, keyless entry and engine start button.

At the heart of the new truck older brother Borgward BX7 with a fully independent suspension (front MacPherson strut, rear multi-link), front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive is available.
The new crossover will go on sale with two power plants, a traditional petrol version and a hybrid version.
Diesel Borgward BX5 is equipped with a four-cylinder 1.8 turbo (190 HP 280 Nm) paired with 6 automatic transmissions. Standard drive to the apron of the wheel, in expensive models of the all-wheel drive system.
Borgward BX5 with a hybrid power plant, which includes a 1.4 turbo petrol (140 hp 240 Nm) and a 115 hp electric motor (total power of the installation is 255 hp, 435 Nm), a 7 DCT gearbox with two clutch discs. All-wheel drive with electronic control.
