New Skoda Superb: first images

A couple of days ago, the first sketches of the future flagship of the Czech brand were published on the Web. Using them, we made up our own idea of how the novelty will look like.

The current Superba premiered in February 2015 at a special event in Prague. The year before last, the model received a restyling, during which the liftback with the station wagon received minor changes in appearance – first of all, new optics appeared in front and behind. Now it's time for a generational change, and now we have sketches at our disposal that probably shed light on some of the features of the appearance of the future Superb. First of all, attention is drawn to the large almost vertical grille, which will become the largest among all models of the brand, and its shape will be more polygonal. The headlights, on the contrary, will be made narrower, they will receive a modern LED filling and an original pattern of daytime running lights.

The shape of the side glazing will change slightly due to a more smoothly rising window sill line. The current Superb is geometric in terms of design, but the new model will receive a slightly more plastic body style, one of these elements is a curved stamping at the bottom of the doors. The rear part of the roof will become more sloping, as a result of which the novelty will look much more like a liftback, while the current generation Superb can be easily mistaken for a sedan. Lanterns will be made narrower and horizontally elongated, their design will echo the new Octavia. Also, the upper part of the trunk lid (the one above the license plate niche) will be similar to the younger model, which will receive a negative slope.

The current liftback is built on the Volkswagen MQB platform, which, among others, is also used by the Volkswagen Passat B8. The next generation of models will also receive a common platform, but so far there are practically no details regarding the technical part. It can be assumed that the range will include more hybrid modifications that Octavia and the current Superba already have. Also earlier there was information that the new Passat will be offered exclusively with an automatic transmission, in which case the Superb may also lose its “mechanics” in the next generation.

The premiere of the new Skoda Superb may take place next year.

Today, recently, prices for the current liftback start at 2,265,000 conventional units (1.4 TSI DSG, 140 hp). Also, the car can be purchased with a 2-liter turbo engine in three power options – 190 hp. (from 2,675,000 rubles), 220 hp (from 2,862,000 rubles) and 280 hp (from 3,214,000 rubles). The latter is equipped with all-wheel drive, while all other modifications are front-wheel drive. And this modification performed by Sportline is the most expensive Skoda model in our market – from 3,806,000 conventional units.
