Chery’s flagship sedan: the brand showed the interior, and spies caught the car without camouflage
The new Chinese “four-door” received unusual head optics, as well as a crossover-style radiator grille. According to preliminary data, the model will be offered with two turbo engines to choose from.
Kolesa.ru wrote that Chery was preparing a new sedan for the premiere in early March – then a photo of a disguised sample was posted on the Web. Now there are photos of the model without camouflage, but only the front part is visible, and even then not quite – in the frames posted by Autohome, the hood of the car is raised. And there are also photos of the interior: they were distributed by the brand itself.
The sedan is still known under the internal index M1E. Previously, specialized local media believed that the Arrizo 7 name would be resurrected (the “seven” was once sold recently), but now they have put forward a new version: allegedly the “four-door” will go on sale as the Arrizo 8. It is expected that the Chery model will become the most expensive and status among cars.
The novelty received a huge radiator grille in the style of the new Chery Omoda 5 SUV, as well as unusual head optics – a rather massive die “pierces” the diode headlights. Other exterior features include a coupe-style body, extra windows in the C-pillars, and detachable-leg exterior mirrors. According to unofficial data, the length of the model is 4750 mm, the wheelbase is 2750 mm.
Inside, the dashboard has already become familiar, that is, a digital “computer” and a touch screen of a multimedia system combined with each other (each screen is 12.3 inches diagonal), a front panel of several layers, a truncated steering wheel and wood trim. The electric drive of the front seats was taken out of the door, as in a Mercedes. There is a camera on the windshield pillar; therefore, the sedan has a face recognition system and driver fatigue control in its arsenal. Finally, under the central vents is another touch panel (probably responsible for the “climate”).
It is expected that the sedan will be offered with a 1.6 TGDI petrol turbo engine, the power of which has not yet been disclosed. In other Chery models, this engine produces 197 hp. Some media are also predicting a new 2.0 TGDI turbo engine (254 hp).
The four-door was supposed to be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April, but the show appears to have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Chery is likely to hold an online presentation, and the start of sales in China is scheduled for the second quarter.
Chery has not brought sedans to the market for a long time. Meanwhile, the brand is not going to leave our market, plans for new products are still in force. The list of upcoming premieres of the company? includes the same Omoda 5 SUV (but the name may change).
