Geely Emgrand sedan, related to Coolray SUV: all versions revealed

In the homeland of the brand, a new-generation “four-door” is available with an uncontested “aspirated” and two boxes. Compared to the previous model, prices have not gone up that much.

The design of the fresh Geely Emgrand was revealed back in May, and at the end of July, applications began to be accepted in China, but only for two expensive configurations, and the prices were preliminary. Now the full price list has been published and live sales have been launched. Recall that such a sedan in the company is positioned as a fourth-generation model. Well, the very first Emgrand debuted in 2009, it was also sold recently under the EC7 index, and not only a “four-door”, but also a hatchback. Then they abandoned the five-door version, while the sedan was renamed Emgrand 7 in our market. The model finally left the market in 2020 due to low demand. But in the Middle Kingdom it was updated almost every year, and there it remains in great demand. By the way, there is still Emgrand GL on the home market, which was considered the successor to “just” Emgrand.

New Geely Emgrand

At the heart of the “fourth” Emgrand is the BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) modular platform, it is also built on, for example, the Geely Binyue SUV (recently the cross is called Coolray). The dimensions have not changed much: the length of the new sedan is 4638 mm (6 mm more than the previous “just” Emgrand), the width is 1820 mm (+31 mm), the height is 1460 mm (-10 mm), the wheelbase is completely coincides with its predecessor – 2650 mm. At the same time, it was announced that, compared with the previous Emgrand, the center of gravity was lower by 72 mm.

The appearance of the sedan is made in the current Geely corporate style, its features are a large radiator grille with concave vertical wedges and LED touches of running lights. The headlights are also diode, as are the lanterns, which are also interconnected by a luminous strip. Additional windows appeared in the rear pillars, thanks to which the “fourth” Emgrand turned out to be a more elegant silhouette than the previous model.

The salon is completely new. The screen of the multimedia system now rises above the front panel, the air vents are hidden in a single plate. They also replaced the door cards, the central tunnel, the “tidy” and the box selector. In addition, Geely reported that in the interior, the degree of coverage with soft materials is 85%.

Like its predecessor, the new Emgrand is equipped with a 1.5 aspirated petrol, but the output has been increased – 114 hp. and 147 Nm against 109 hp and 142 Nm. In July, only cars with a CVT were available for order, but now you can also choose the basic version with a five-speed “mechanics” (the previous model has the same boxes, while the sedan with 5MKP is presented in two trim levels).

There are four options to choose from. The arsenal of the cheapest new Geely Emgrand includes: LED DRLs, 16-inch wheels, heated exterior mirrors, a pair of frontal airbags, leather upholstery, climate control, virtual instrument cluster (12.3″), multimedia system with a touchscreen with a diagonal of 10.25 inches and voice control (the predecessor has an 8-inch display), a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors. In the second most senior configuration, a keyless entry system and an engine start button, cruise control, a car park and a separate air duct for rear passengers appear.
