Crossover Chevrolet Equinox EV: not the one you were waiting for. Another “green” Blazer is on the way

Both electric SUVs will hit the domestic market next year. The new products are expected to have a range of up to 483 km on a single charge.

General Motors officially announced that the Chevrolet lineup will be complemented by the Equinox EV and Blazer EV electric crossovers in the fall of 2021. And even earlier – last summer – the American media circulated images of a patent for an SUV that Equinox guessed about, but obviously without an internal combustion engine: in this car, a plug is installed instead of a radiator grille. Now GM itself has released branded images of the upcoming crossover, set to coincide with the CES show currently taking place in Las Vegas (Chevy's first major event was the Silverado EV electric pickup). It so happened that under the name Chevrolet Equinox EV, a completely different SUV will be sold at home, which has nothing to do with the “traditional” SUV of the same name. An electric Blazer has also been confirmed.

both new Chevrolet SUVs were announced to be based on the Ultium platform. There are no other details about the technique yet, and in the specialized American media it is believed that the crosses on one charge will be able to overcome 402-483 km.

The exterior features of the Equinox EV are two-tier head optics, taillights made in the form of a single plate, rear-view mirrors on separate legs and retractable door handles. Inside: a virtual “tidy” and a large touch screen multimedia system, round air intakes on the sides and a two-level central tunnel, combined with each other. This electric crossover will also have a “sporty” RS variant (aka in the title photo) with a black exterior and a shortened steering wheel.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV will go on sale in fall 2023 and the brand is promising a starting price of around $30,000. By comparison, the Chevrolet Bolt electric sunroof will cost just $31,000 today (all prices exclude taxes and shipping). Well, the petrol equinox starts at $25,800.

The “green” Chevrolet Blazer EV will hit the market earlier, in the spring of 2023, but the price has not yet been announced. A “traditional” blazer today starts at $28,800.

Meanwhile, the 2021 internal-combustion Equinox placed second on Chevy's personal sales chart (the first being the Silverado family of pickups), with 165,323 crossovers sold in the States, down 39% from a year earlier, but that's not out of the question. for lack of demand, but with a shortage of microchips and a forced reduction in production. Chevrolet Blazer gasoline brands in 2021 were sold 70,325 units (-26%).

As for the electric Equinox turned on in the summer, it is likely that such a crossover will also be put on the conveyor: it will probably be made on the basis of a conventional model, and the green version will be sold to China, because the design was patented by a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC.
