Cupra has announced a new crossover: its name is still kept secret
The start of production of the novelty of the Spanish brand is scheduled for 2024. Serial production of cars will be organized at the Hungarian Audi plant.
Cupra was originally a subsidiary of the Spanish brand Seat, which is part of the Volkswagen Group. The division appeared in 1985, its tasks included the development of “charged” versions of the Seats. Everything changed in 2018 – then the manufacturer decided to separate Cupra into a separate brand, now its own models are produced under this brand, as well as restyled versions of “regular” Seat cars. Back in February 2018, Ateca became the first-born Cupra.
Last month, the company revealed a new short-term development strategy called “Cupra X2”. According to this plan, by the end of 2022, the sales volume of the brand's cars will have to double, that is, it will be about 155 thousand – 160 thousand cars. In addition, the manufacturer intends to double the number of distributors. The company also indicated that this year there will be no presentation and market launch of new Cupra models.
At the same time, it became known that in the coming years, several new large-scale products will appear in the brand line – all of them will be completely electric. In particular, in 2024, the Cupra Tavascan series crossover will be presented, based on the Volkswagen MEB modular platform; The debut date was confirmed by the head of the brand, Wayne Griffiths. In addition, a hatchback based on the Cupra UrbanRebel concept, as well as a compact SUV and a sedan (the latter may be based on the Volkswagen Aero-B) will be added to the green line.

At the same time, the company will not forget about cars with internal combustion engines. The Spanish manufacturer today announced the appearance of a new crossover in the brand line: its name is still kept secret. It is known that the length of the future car will be 4.5 meters. This means it will be larger than the Cupra Ateca (4376mm) and Formentor (4450mm).
Judging by the published image and video, the car will not have a coupe-like body shape (which one would expect from a likely sports crossover). The LED headlight and taillight graphics are expected to be different from current Cupra models.
In addition, the company said that the basic version will receive a “mild hybrid” installation, and the most expensive options will be plug-in hybrids, with a purely electric range of about 100 km. More detailed specifications are likely to be made public at a later date.
The production of the new hybrid cupra and still unnamed crossover will be launched at the Audi plant, which is located in the city of Gyor (Hungary). It now also produces the Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback SUVs (based on the modular MQB platform).
