It is expected that three electric vehicles under the Spanish brand will enter the market in the next few years. The firstborn will be the Tavascan cross.

Initially, Cupra was a subsidiary of the Spanish brand Seat (part of the Volkswagen concern), its tasks included the development of “charged” versions of the Seat – the division appeared in 1985. But the situation changed in 2018 – then the manufacturer decided to separate it into a separate brand, now under the Cupra brand, which includes both its own models and restyled versions of regular Seat models. Recall that the firstborn of the new Spanish brand was Ateca, which debuted in February 2018.

Now the young brand is celebrating its fourth anniversary. The company calculated that by the end of 2021, Cupra models accounted for 17% of Seat's total sales. In total, last year, buyers purchased 79,300 cars from the brand, which is 189% (that is, almost three times) more than in 2020.

It is worth noting that the bulk of the brand's sales came from the Cupra Formentor SUV, whose sales in Europe began in August 2020 (this SUV has no analogues under the Seat brand). Distributors sold a total of 54,600 copies last year. The remaining 24,700 pieces. (from Cupra sales in 2021) are descended from Ateca, León and an electric car from Born.

The company discussed a new short-term development strategy called “Cupra X2”. She assumes that by the end of 2022, the sales volume of the brand's cars will double, that is, it will be about 155 thousand – 160 thousand cars. The manufacturer also intends to double the number of distributors. True, at the same time, this year the presentation and entry into the market of new models launched under the Cupra brand should not be expected.

However, in the following years, several large-scale new products will appear in the brand's product line. According to current trends, they will all be fully electric. So, in 2024, the presentation of the crossover series Cupra Tavascan will take place: the debut date was confirmed by the head of the brand, Wayne Griffiths. Recall that the concept of the future novelty was declassified back in 2019. It is based on Volkswagen's modular MEB platform.

The same “car” will form the basis of another “green” novelty, the release of which is scheduled for 2025. We are talking about a subcompact hatchback: its predecessor is the Cupra UrbanRebel concept, presented in early autumn last year as part of a car show. Munich car. It is known that the production of an electric car will be established at the Seat plant in Martorell, and its cost, as previously reported, will range from 20,000 to 25,000 euros.

The Spanish automaker also appears to be working on two more electric vehicles, as their silhouettes were revealed during the presentation of Cupra's new ‘Hyperverse' virtual reality platform. They are expected to appear after the launch of the Tavascan crossover and small car based on the UrbanRebel show car. Judging by the “teasers”, one of the future models may turn out to be an electric SUV, and the second – a sedan, and it is possible that the Volkswagen Aero-B will become the base.
