Story
2006 began selling Toyota FJ Cruiser. The concept model was introduced back in 2003, and the production model in 2005. Initially, Toyota did not plan to mass-produce this car, limiting itself to a show car, but interest in the FJ Cruiser turned out to be so high that the company's management decided to put the car into production.
Platform
The FJ Cruiser is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 120. It retained the frame structure and double wishbone front suspension at the front, while the solid rear axle gave way to independent suspension. Externally, the car is built in a retro style and stylized as a Land Cruiser 40. Due to the fact that the windshield is low and wide, three wipers had to be installed on it. The rear doors open against the direction of travel, which is convenient and, of course, original.
Engine
Initially, Toyota planned to sell the FJ Cruiser only in the US, Canada and the UAE, but due to strong demand, the area expanded and sales began in Mexico and China. Only one engine is available: a four-liter petrol V6 1GR-FE with a capacity of 240 hp. In 2010, the engine was equipped with a variable valve timing system Dual VVT-i, which gave an increase of 20 hp, and in some markets the power reaches 270 hp.
Transmission
The drive can be either rear or full. Monodrive modifications are equipped only with automatic transmission-5 and a limited slip rear differential, while all-wheel drive is available not only with automatic transmission-5, but also with manual transmission-6. The principle of operation of all-wheel drive also depends on the choice of the box: if with mechanics the drive is permanent all-wheel drive with a limited slip differential, then only Part Time is available with an automatic machine, that is, a plug-in all-wheel drive. All all-wheel drive versions have a lower gear.
Four-piston wheel brakes with ventilated discs. Standard equipment includes ABS, EBD, BA, VSC, TRAC and cruise control.
Complete set
Options are packages of options that can be ordered in addition to the standard. There are only six body colors, and the roof is painted white. Safety is rated 5 stars. TRD produces the FJ Cruiser TRD Special Edition, which includes a more efficient exhaust system and TRD air filter, TRD/Bilstein shock absorbers, signature roof rails and the TRD Limited Edition emblem. The TRD Special Edition is only available in black, including the roof. 3200-3500 copies are produced per year.
This was later replaced by another limited edition Trail Teams Special Edition. Cars of this series were equipped with BF Goodrich AT tires, additional headlights, bottom and sill protection, a USB port for connecting an iPod, as well as Bluetooth. Officially, the FJ Cruiser is not supplied to the market.
