It is expected that the presentation of the “green” novelty of the German brand will take place in mid-2024. It is likely that the car will have modifications with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The Porsche brand is generally doing well in the old-world market. According to the results of the “covid” 2020, brand dealers sold 73,840 vehicles, which is only 5.4% less than a year earlier. This year, the brand is again seeing growth – in the first eight months (more recent data is not yet available), Europeans bought 47,295 cars, which is 4.1% more than in January-August 2020.

For the Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxter, performance in Europe is gradually declining. Over the past year, the model has sold 6663 copies, which is 10% less than in 2019. This year, the sports car still has a “minus”: in January-August, 4068 cars were sold, which is 11% less compared to the figure for the first eight months of 2020.

Now Porsche (the brand is part of the German concern Volkswagen) continues to work on the successor to the 718 model. According to the Spanish edition of motor.es, the novelty will have a fully electric “stuffing”. It is expected that the presentation of the “green” sports car will take place in mid-2024.

Of course, there is no official information on what the successor to the 718 Cayman will look like. Therefore, artists can offer their own vision of the exterior of the future sports car. The designer motor.es shared his version of the appearance of the novelty. It is assumed that the design of the developed car will be influenced by the Porsche Mission R concept, presented in September 2021.

The sports car's successor is expected to retain its compact dimensions. The new car will be a few millimeters wider and longer, in addition, the height will be less. Note that the current version has a length of 4379 mm (the distance between the axles is 2475 mm), a width of 1801 mm, and a height of 1295 mm. It is assumed that the electric car will be issued in the style promoted with the Taycan. It is possible that the optics will be reduced to concise thin strips of LEDs.

The company has so far shared information about the “technology”. According to preliminary data, the future model will not be based on either the J1 platform on which the Taycan is based, nor the new PPE “trolley”, in which the manufacturer has invested a lot of money. Probably, information about the basis of the novelty will appear later. The next-generation 718 Cayman is expected to come with either single or dual electric motors, meaning rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Presumably, the maximum power of the power plant of the new electric car will be 500 hp.

Meanwhile, it became known that the Porsche Taycan overtook the iconic 911 in sales. In general, this was a bright and significant victory for electric vehicles, although it should be borne in mind that these models still have different target audiences.
