You can’t do without them: things that I strongly recommend to always carry in a car

Automotive operation rarely goes smoothly. Of course, you can relieve yourself of some of the responsibilities that your dad or husband can take on. However, sooner or later, you will still face some kind of trouble face to face and you will have to solve this problem yourself. So it was, so it is, and so it always will be. However, in order for a meeting with troubles to take place with less negative consequences for us, we need to be prepared for it. In this regard, I compiled here a list of things that you need to carry with you in the car – just in case, otherwise, you never know.

Automobile compressor

In general, this is a fairly common thing that most of the many motorists now have, but with an amendment – for those who mainly live in the provinces and in not too large cities. In general, in the provinces, our people are more responsible and tend to predict in advance unpleasant moments and situations that arise during operation.

As for the residents of large cities, they are spoiled by a developed infrastructure and an abundance of car services, tire stations, and so on. All this I say to the fact that urban motorists rely more on others than on themselves, and therefore sometimes find themselves in situations that bring them back to harsh reality, urging them to trust only themselves.

But I just made a generalization. In fact, there are a lot of negligent and careless drivers, both among the townspeople and the provincials, and the lack of a compressor in the car is just another confirmation of this. Because it is high time for everyone to understand that you can puncture a wheel on the road at any time. And, especially, it is dangerous when you climb outside the city and stay alone with the car on the highway.

And, if you still punctured the wheel at night, while you don't have a spare wheel or a stowaway, then you don’t have to count on a successful outcome of events – you only need to call a tow truck. And the compressor, after all, will allow you to maintain pressure even in a punctured wheel (if the hole is not too large) and thus slowly hobble to the nearest tire service or home.

And in general, the presence of a compressor is an opportunity to constantly check and maintain optimal pressure in the wheels. After all, as you know, optimal pressure is not only a guarantee of the safe behavior of the car on the road, but also normal fuel consumption and dynamics, acceptable driving comfort.

Therefore, do not neglect the purchase of a compressor – do not doubt that you will need it often, especially in winter, during the cold season. The reason is that in cold weather, the pressure in the wheels begins to change, which entails a change in consumption, dynamics, handling and comfort. At the same time, you will not need to call in for a tire fitting and wait in line there in order to pump up the wheels.

Starter charger

Almost every car has a battery. It is needed in order to ensure the operability of on-board equipment at a time when the engine is turned off. At the same time, at the time of starting, the battery feeds and brings the starter into working condition in order to start this same engine.

And when the motor is in working condition, the battery provides a stable voltage in the on-board electrical network, which is also very important for all equipment. In general, as you understand, many important tasks hang on the battery, with which it copes. However, sometimes it happens that the battery is discharged and now, then we are unlikely to be able to start the engine, and it’s not a fact that the rest of the equipment in the car will work.

The worst thing is when the battery is discharged away from our home – when there is no way to take the battery home for recharging. At the same time, if we are in this position far from home even at night, in a place where neither cars nor people come across – for example, in a country cottage or in nature, then the situation becomes really sad and, in some cases, even threatening.

And in order for us to be able to emerge victorious from such a situation, it is necessary to always have a starter-charger with you in the car. Fortunately, now there are plenty of such gadgets on the market and you choose one that suits your taste and wallet.

The whole point of the starter-charger is to ensure that when it is connected to the battery with terminals, give it a starting current, a push that will allow you to crank the starter and, thereby, set the engine in motion. Further – the generator, with the engine running, will recharge the dead battery, which will allow it to revive a little.

The most important feature of the starter-charger is the ability to solve the problem with a discharged battery outside the home in a short time, without resorting to outside help. Moreover, the vast majority of these gadgets have compact dimensions, so they can easily be put somewhere in the car. But you must remember that in the cold season it is undesirable to leave the start-charger in the cabin for a long time, because it can also be discharged.

In general, I like the starter-charger, because finally, I do not need to ask the driver of another car with a working battery for help. At the same time, the instantaneous effect from one charge is enough for several starts.

Fuse kit

Any modern car, and even older one, also has electrical wiring. It extends like arteries throughout the body, trunk and engine compartment, ensuring the efficiency of on-board equipment. At the same time, cars aged and with mileage do not have any problems with wiring. Definitely, something goes wrong.

Sometimes damage occurs to the wiring itself, which causes on-board voltage surges and then the fuses fail. Fuses are needed for that, so that during a power surge, on-board equipment does not fail. I can only say that fuses can burn out suddenly and often, so you need to keep this in mind and always keep a set of fuses in the car, or better, two.

Just understand that it's rare for fuses to just blow. This is a consequence of some negative processes that occur either in the on-board equipment (does not work correctly) or in the electrical wiring (wire breakage or wiping of the wiring harness).

You need to fight the cause, not the effect. Well, for now, while driving every day, especially if the car is operated on a suburban highway and over long distances, it will not be superfluous to keep fuses with you. It’s good if the fuses of some rear window motors fail, but if the air conditioner fuse fails, then it’s not funny, especially if it happened in winter – the stove stops working and the windows freeze up rapidly, significantly worsening the driver’s visibility. This is an example, but I think that you have already realized in this example the need for spare fuses in the cabin. Although, in principle, it would be nice to have spare fuses for the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Spare headlight kit

It is unlikely that such advice will be relevant for cars that are equipped with factory LED optics, because there are no lamps – there are LED modules and boards that you yourself cannot replace on the road. You will have to go to the service and solve this problem, which requires a significant investment of finances and a waste of time.

But, for those who use a car with halogen or xenon optics, this recommendation will be quite relevant. Especially, I recommend carrying a set of spare headlight bulbs with you in cases where you have to go on long trips, because if the bulbs burn out, then driving on the highway at night will be extremely uncomfortable for you. Moreover, it happens that two lamps of the head low beam burn out at once, and then the further operation of the machine may become impossible – in any case, with the low beam completely inoperative.

Agree, such cases take place in life. Therefore, do not neglect this advice.

A set of necessary medicines

Now many drivers, especially those who are aged, may complain about their health. There is no doubt that there is a recommendation not to drive if you feel unwell, but what if the disease is chronic or in a person, for example, diabetes? That's right, you need to take medicines with you into the car that will make you feel good.

But it also happens that an ailment can occur suddenly. For example, your blood pressure may rise or you may experience a headache. You know what discomfort sometimes comes from migraine attacks or from hypertension, so anyone who often encounters this should definitely carry medicines with them that can smooth out the ailment and bring the driver back to normal.

Basically, aspirin is considered a universal remedy. It is able to thin the blood and thereby reduce blood pressure. In addition, aspirin has antipyretic properties, so it can be taken with fever or high body temperature. In combination with analgin, aspirin acts as an anesthetic.

In general, I recommend keeping aspirin and analgin in the car for sure – it's like a base. In addition, you can put drops for dry or tired eyes, nasal drops, and so on. In general, you get the point.
