Citroën says goodbye to “baby” C1: C3 and Ami will act as an alternative

The model has been on the market for 17 years, since then the total hatchback sales amounted to about 1.2 million copies.

The French marque, now owned by car giant Stellantis, launched the Citroën C1 in 2005. The “twins” of the model were the Peugeot 108 (originally the index was 107) and the Toyota Aygo. All listed citycars are produced at the facilities of the joint venture TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile), the plant is located in Kolin, Czech Republic. Recall that now the site has become the property of Toyota.

The results in the European market for the “baby” Citroen in general in recent years are relatively good. So, according to the results of Covid 2020, dealers sold 40,578 units here (18.7% less than a year earlier). Sales continued to fall last year, with 33,159 vehicles purchased between January and November 2021 (down 10.5% from the first 11 months of the previous year). Note that the results of the Peugeot 108 are more or less the same: for example, 43,629 cars were sold in the Old World market in 2020, and 32,287 units in incomplete 2021.

It has long been known that Peugeot and Citroën are not preparing direct successors for their city cars. So, today, January 27, Citroen reported that the last copy of the C1 “crumbs” had already left the assembly line of the Czech plant. In total, the model spent 17 years on the market: during this time, the total sales of the compact hatchback amounted to about 1.2 million copies.

Although there is no direct replacement for the Citroën C1, there is an alternative: the “small” urban electric car Ami, which in some countries, such as France, is allowed to drive from the age of 14 (it is a two-wheeled-seater ATV). We talked about it in more detail earlier: its length is 2.41 meters, width – 1.39 meters, and height – 1.52 meters.

Recall that the Citroën Ami is equipped with an electric motor with a modest return of 8.2 hp. The traction battery is located under the floor, its capacity is 5.5 kWh. The weight of the small car together with the battery is 485 kg. The power reserve is enough for about 75 km, and the maximum speed that the Ami can reach is 45 km/h. You can charge the battery from a household outlet in 3.5 hours (the cable is built-in, located near the passenger door).

Another alternative is Citroën C3 (the manufacturer, in particular, advises a special version with the addition of “You!” to the model name). This hatchback has an audio system, air conditioning, heated and power mirrors, cruise control, lane keeping system and fog lights.

Recall that the hatch range includes an 83-horsepower three-cylinder “aspirated” PureTech with a volume of 1.2 liters, a turbocharged engine of the same volume with a return of 110 hp, as well as a 1.5-liter four-cylinder BlueHDi turbodiesel with a capacity of 100 hp. Less powerful engines come only with a five-speed manual transmission, while the turbocharged petrol version is paired with a six-speed “mechanics” and “automatic”.

It should be noted that Toyota “reformatted” its Aygo city car into a “crossover”: it received an increase in the name in the form of the letter “X”, grew in size, but the engine remained the same – 1KR. -FE “aspirated” three-cylinder and 1.0 liter, output is equivalent to 72 hp.
