I present to your attention a five-door, five-seater, all-wheel drive car Land Rover Defender 110 (second generation). Start of production in 2019. Assembled car in the UK.
I note that there is a three-door modification Defender, with an index of 90.
I.e:
- Land Rover Defender 110 – five-door.
- Land Rover Defender 90 – three-door.
I will consider the three-door version in a separate publication, in this article we will talk about a five-door car.
Review Land Rover Defender 110
The inscription in large letters "DEFENDE R", located in front of the hood, indicates that we have a stately, thoroughbred "stallion" from the Land Rover lineup. I will not hide, the new Defender is almost completely different from its predecessor. We will talk about this further in the course of the article.
Front optics LED, designed for the entire life of the car. The advantage of LED optics over halogen optics is that LED optics have a lighting quality that is close to daylight. Thus, when driving at night, driver fatigue is less and driving is more comfortable.
under the hood
At the time of my visit to the car dealership, at the beginning of 2021, Defender in various trim levels was offered for sale with the following engines to choose from:
Diesel:
- Four-cylinder, in-line, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, 200 horsepower, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
- Six-cylinder, in-line, turbocharged 3.0-liter engine, 249 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Petrol:
- Six-cylinder, in-line, turbocharged, gasoline (AI-95) engine, 3.0 liter capacity, 400 horsepower, paired with an 8-automatic transmission.
Dimensions
The Land Rover Defender 110 belongs to class J.
Dimensions:
- Length – 5018 mm.
- Width – 1996 mm.
- Height – 1967 mm.
- Wheelbase – 3022 mm.
- The curb weight is approximately 2300 kg. The total mass of the car is about 3200 kg.
Defender 110 (second generation), in relation to the car of the previous generation, became:
- Longer by 379 mm.
- Wider by 206 mm,
- Lower by 54 mm.
- The wheelbase has been extended by 228 mm.
Let’s look under the car
The front suspension is pneumatic, independent, with an integrated anti-roll bar. On the front axle there are disc brakes, ventilated, with brake pad wear indicator. Front track width – 1704 mm.
Installed metal protection of the lower part of the engine compartment. We do not pay attention to protruding wires, as the battery is being recharged.
Let me remind you that the previous Defender was frame. The updated Defender has a load-bearing body, where the platform is aluminum. Ground clearance varies from 218 mm to 291 mm.
As befits an SUV, the Defender 110 has a two-speed (up/down) transfer case.
The rear suspension is independent, pneumatic, with an integrated anti-roll bar. The rear axle has ventilated disc brakes with a brake pad wear indicator. Rear track width – 1670 mm.
Judging by the tread of the tires, the car is equipped with off-road tires.
The back of the car
Rear LED optics. The line of marker lights looks like a superellipse figure. This solution looks beautiful, especially on a black car.
A full-size spare wheel is mounted on the fifth door.
Let’s look in the trunk
The fifth door is solid, opens sideways. For convenience, a gas stop is installed at the bottom.
In the decorative trim of the fifth door, in its lower part, a niche is built in for various inventory. In the upper-central part, there is a lockable compartment where the warning triangle lies.
The backs of the second row of seats are laid out according to the formula 40/20/40. The volume of the luggage compartment, with unfolded spokes of the second row of seats – 1075 liters, folded – 2380 liters.
Despite the fact that the backs fold out into an uneven floor, it is still possible to organize a sleeping place.
The luggage compartment shelf is made of a material that resembles fabric. If it is not needed, the shelf can be put in the compartment under the raised floor, where the tool is located: a jack, a balloon wrench and a towing loop.
Second row of passenger seats
With my height of 180 cm. The doorway landing on the second row of seats does not constrain. The seat is comfortable to sit on. I note that there is quite a lot of free space in the area of u200bu200bthe legs. In my opinion, even three passengers will not be cramped.
In the car in question, the seat trim is fabric. In richer trim levels, leather seat trim. According to tactile sensations, the fabric is durable, I will assume that it is wear-resistant.
To be honest, in the back row of seats, I did not see any obvious benefits that emphasize the premium car.
At the driver’s workplace
The door trim looks ugly.
The driver’s seat is comfortable. Sitting in a chair is comfortable. Visibility is good. Side mirrors with automatic dimming. The steering column is adjustable for reach and tilt, mechanical, but there are car configurations where it is electric. The front seats are partially electrically adjustable. Climate control dual zone.
Systems that help the driver drive a car:
- Emergency braking system.
- Surround cameras.
- Cruise control.
- Driver fatigue control system.
- Lane keeping system.
- Assistance with parking.
- Traffic sign recognition system.
- Wade depth sensors.
Heated steering wheel trimmed in leather. The automatic transmission selector knob is also leather-trimmed.
The style in which Parpriz is decorated does not evoke feelings of admiration in enticing.
As you can see in the photo above, in the tunnel part, between the seats, there is a passage through the cabin. Yes, you heard right, this decision is constructive.
The automatic transmission selector handle is located in the central part of Parpriz. Like the on/off button.
Let me summarize. Car Land Rover Defender II 110, I liked it. On the technical side, everything is arranged quite reliably. The fact that the car is meager in terms of the interior of the cabin is probably a significant minus, since the car itself is far from cheap. In the car dealership that I visited, reviewed in the Defender publication, it was sold for almost 5,000,000 conditional units. What do you think, is it worth the money or not?
