Land Rover Defender 130 shown in patent images: 8 seats and wheelbase like 110
According to preliminary data, the British brand will introduce an extended version of the SUV over the next few months.
Land Rover launched production of the legendary model in 1948. At first, the car was simply called Series I, II, III and had as a prefix an indication of the size of the wheelbase in inches: 88 and 109. Also in 1983, SUVs began to be called simply Land Rover 90, 110 and 130 (this index is also from the wheelbase). Only seven years later, the models received the name familiar to us – Defender. However, the era of the “classic” Defender is long over: the last copy rolled off the assembly line of the factory in the UK at the beginning of 2016. But still, the company decided not to abandon the name: it was transferred to a model of another brand.: sales in Europe started in 2020.
In the spring of 2021, the British brand officially confirmed the addition of a stretched version of the Land Rover Defender 130 to its lineup: it will join the current three-door short SUV Defender 90 and the standard five-door Defender 110. The “stretched” version of the SUV is expected to be introduced over the coming months.
While the company has not officially declassified the appearance of the future novelty. Previously, the prototype of the “British” has already been met with spy photos on the roads of Germany, but that car was hidden in black and white camouflage and it was not possible to see the details. Now fans of the model have the opportunity to learn more about the new Land Rover Defender 130: patent images of an extended version of the SUV have appeared on the Web.
Judging by the latest data, the assumption was confirmed that the Defender 130 will have the same wheelbase as the five-door modification Defender 110 – 3022 mm (that is, the company abandoned the principle of assigning a digital index depending on the wheelbase). According to preliminary information, the length of the new version will be 5.1 meters, for comparison, the same size of the standard “five-door” is 4758 mm (excluding the spare tire). Engineers were able to make the 130 version longer by increasing the rear overhang.
Salon Land Rover Defender 130 will have three rows of seats designed for eight people. Recall that in the “one hundred and tenth” is placed a maximum of seven people. The company plans to position this version as “premium”, in the “one hundred and thirty” range, there will probably only be a rich performance of the model.
According to preliminary data, the Defender 130 will receive a full range of diesel and gasoline engines (including a V8 turbo engine), and will also have a plug-in hybrid version of the P300e. Note that the prototype of an elongated SUV that previously appeared on the roads was equipped with a mild hybrid power plant, which is based on a 3.0-liter gasoline engine.
Earlier, the designer of Kolesa.ru, Nikita Chuiko, presented what the Land Rover Defender 130 would look like – how much the artist's ideas coincided with reality, we will find out soon after the premiere of the novelty. The exact date of the debut in the company is not yet known.
