On the eve of the premiere: a new teaser of the sports car Mercedes-AMG SL
The official presentation of the new German brand will take place tomorrow. The exterior of the “two-door” has not yet been fully disclosed, but part of the car can be seen in the new video.
The German car manufacturer began production of the SL model, discovered in 1954. The name is essentially an index from Super Leicht, which means “superlight”. The peak year for this model over the last decade was 2012, when European dealers sold 3,937 vehicles. By comparison, only 885 units were sold in pre-2019, and at the end of last year's crisis, buyers bought just 505 vehicles, almost 43% less than a year earlier.
The seventh generation SL is now preparing for the next presentation, the new “two-door” will debut tomorrow, October 28th. As it became known earlier, when changing the generation, the model will be completely transferred to the Mercedes-AMG line. While the Germans keep the next SL a secret, but today the company has generously posted a video teaser of the future news.
The new “two-door” will have a soft top (the current version has a folding metal roof) and two rows of seats. But it should be borne in mind that the second row is more suitable for placing sports bags, and even people whose height does not exceed 1.5 meters can sit in these places with relative comfort. At the same time, there is practically no legroom for passengers sitting in the back, and the seat backs are almost vertical.
The appearance of the new elements is not fully visible on the new teaser, however, judging by the photos of the SL prototype, the next sports car will have a signature Pan-American grille and a pair of exhaust outlets on the cover, left and right, integrated into the lower part of the rear bumper. The video shows the front of the car in profile, where the optics of the head are visible, as well as the smooth line of the stern with a visible lantern.

Salon of the new generation Mercedes-AMG SL was declassified last summer. The company called it “hyper analog”. The cabin is equipped with round ventilation flaps: there are four “turbines” on the front panel. It is also worth paying attention to the virtual “neat” with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, which is visually as if drowned in a niche. Probably, in this way the company decided to make it so that when driving with the roof open, the display was visible, and not the glare on it.

The touchscreen of the MBUX infotainment system (its 11.9-inch diagonal) is also protected from a similar glare problem. The system works in such a way that it changes the angle of inclination, and this happens automatically: a separate electric drive is responsible for ensuring that the touch screen is in a more vertical position when the roof of the new SL is folded and when the driver raises the hood, the display itself “folds” into the front side panel.
it is known that the new “two-door” will receive the AMG 4Matic + all-wheel drive system, as well as the fact that the basic version will have a four-cylinder engine under the hood. More detailed official information on the “stuffing” is not yet available. According to preliminary information, the model can get a hybrid power plant, which will be based on a two-liter turbo engine, which will be paired with an electric motor. It is expected that the total power of such a system will be 578 hp. It is possible that the V8 engine will also remain in the lineup, with the top of the range being a plug-in hybrid, whose total system output will exceed 840 hp.
