The new crossover Ford Maverick: what it can be
For the first time this summer, Ford's new compact pickup truck, called the Maverick, appeared. Previously, it belonged to the recently known crossover, and we decided to imagine what a novelty might look like in such a body.
Over the past 50 years, the Maverick name has been carried by completely different Ford models, the first of which was a passenger car, produced from 1970 to 1977 in coupe and sedan versions. Since the late 1980s, the Nissan Patrol SUV (Y60) has been sold under this name in the Australian market. In 1993, Maverick appeared, which is a copy of the Nissan Terrano II model for the European market. Finally, the most famous recently Maverick is the 2000 model year crossover, which was officially sold here (in the US market it is known as the Ford Escape). After the end of production in 2007, there was a long break, and this year the famous name is back with a compact pickup. And we decided to portray this model in a more familiar version of the crossover.

The SUV is made on the basis of a pickup, but its base is significantly reduced (the distance between the axles of the pickup is too large for a relatively compact crossover and is 3076 mm), the rear overhang is also reduced (the overall length of the pickup is 5072 mm). It's worth noting that the Maverick pickup already has a crossover called the Bronco Sport on its platform, but the SUV shown in our images has a wide wheelbase and a rear overhang that allows for three rows of seats and a spacious trunk. In terms of graphics, one of them is the wide, body-coloured and angled C-pillars (located behind the rear doors) – a similar element in the 2000 Maverick crossover, as well as in some modern Ford crossovers.

The new Maverick is the largest model built on the C2 modular passenger platform (also used in the fourth-generation Ford Focus and Ford Escape crossovers). Ground clearance varies depending on the modification and is 210-218 mm. The base pickup is equipped with front-wheel drive, an electromechanical variator and a hybrid system consisting of atmospheric gasoline 2.5 Atkinson cycle (164 hp, 210 Nm) and an electric motor with a capacity of 128 horsepower (235 Nm), the total system power is 194 hp. The second option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine (253 hp, 375 Nm) coupled with an 8-speed automatic.

In the current market, the new Maverick is not represented, as Ford passenger cars left the market in 2019. Today, the company's lineup consists of commercial Transit models only.
