Frame pickup SsangYong Rexton Sports has become more powerful and richer

The Korean brand has brought an updated truck to the local market. The two-liter turbodiesel has been modernized, in addition, the list of available equipment has been expanded. And the model has a special version.

In early January, it became known that SsangYong would still have a new owner – the Korean company Edison Motors. We have already talked about this company, from an interesting point of view – plans to flood the market with electrical engineering. But SsangYong has only one “trip” so far, and even then the “traditional” Korando crossover. The main box office of the brand at home is the van on the Rexton Sports chassis and its extended version Khan: these are SsangYong bestsellers, in total 25,813 cars were sold last year. The trucks survived a facelift in the spring of 2021, but the team was left untouched at that time, although the sister SUV Rexton, updated earlier, received a more powerful engine. Now we come to the “stuffing” of the vans and, in addition, Rexton Sports and Khan have purchased new equipment.

So, the 2.2 turbodiesel now produces 202 hp instead of 181-187 hp, and the power no longer depends on the gearbox (previously Rexton Sports with “mechanics” was weaker). But the maximum torque has been increased only for cars with an “automatic”: now 441 Nm against 400 Nm for the standard pre-reform station wagon and 420 Nm for the Khan version. The indicator for Rexton Sports-2022 with a six-speed “mechanics” is the same 400 Nm (Khan comes only with automatic transmission). At the same time, station wagons did not receive a new eight-speed “automatic”, which Rexton has purely for passengers, they still have a six-speed gearbox from Aisin. Both trucks are available with rear and all wheel drive.

Truck versions also have electric power steering instead of power steering, and the ADAS security system now includes 16 systems instead of the previous nine. In particular, this set was supplemented by a lane keeping system and a collision avoidance system in “blind” zones. As before, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and built-in cameras also appear in the truck's arsenal. Something new in the cabin: a virtual “tidy”.

Also SsangYong Rexton Sports Khan received a special version of the Expedition (she is in the title photo). The “chips” for this option are a black grille and 20-inch wheels, a “beam” on the front bumper, hood linings, footboards and an emblem with the name of the special version.

The length of the standard Rexton Sports is 5095 mm, the wheelbase is 3100 mm, the ground clearance is 215 mm. Dimensions Rexton Sports Khan: 5405, 3210 and 203 mm respectively. The length of the cargo platform of the short version is 1300 mm, the extended version is 1610 mm. Both trucks “on the base” have leaf spring suspension of the rear wheels, for the elongated one there is also a version with rear springs. In the first case, Khan's carrying capacity is 500 kg (standard pickup – 400 kg), in the second – 700 kg.
