Tuning Honda Accord – how the older generation helps the younger
Today it is quite difficult to find a foreign car, the improvement of which would be done by specialists as willingly as tuning the Honda Accord 8. The eighth generation models really have something to work on both under the hood and outside. What parts require improvement or replacement: let's try to figure it out together.
1 Where does Accord improvement start?
Quite often, tuning experts compare the Accord 8 with another Honda model – the Accord CC7. What is the reason for this parallelism, because the latter is one of the representatives of the fifth generation of Honda cars and should not have anything to do with a newer car. In fact, everything is quite simple: spare parts from CC7 are often used to improve octave “chords”. The older model is considered to have a better foundation and reliable parts that are in demand just when you need to replace the standard Accord 8 engine and transmission parts.

As a rule, Honda Accord 8 tuning begins with the modernization of the power unit by installing a zero resistance filter and replacing the engine crankshaft. With the first stage of work – installing a new filter – there should be no problems. You need a nulevik, a pair of Phillips screwdrivers and plugs. First you need to remove the old filter, which is located just below the starter. To do this, unscrew the fasteners and disconnect the pipes connected to the standard filter. After that, carefully remove the part and proceed to flush the pipes.
The latter is best removed completely so as not to flood the Honda throttle body. Use Wynn's cleaner as a flushing agent. After washing, we install the nozzles in their places, at the same time replacing their plugs with new ones. In the end, it remains to install and secure a new filter. Many car enthusiasts complement the zero setting with a direct type exhaust. Specifically, on Accord 8, it makes no sense to do this, since the car is already equipped with such an exhaust system.
2 Mounting the crankshaft from the CC7 engine
The second stage of tuning the car will be the replacement of the standard crankshaft of the Honda power unit. And here you should pay attention to the detailing of the CC7 model. The engine of the latter is equipped with a shaft with a large eccentricity, which is exactly what is needed to increase the volume of the engine of our car. Before proceeding with the replacement of a standard Honda engine shaft, one should realize that this is a rather laborious process that requires at least some knowledge of the engine design.
Tuning consists of two stages: remove the old part of the engine and install a new shaft. To work, you need to prepare the following tools:
- keys set;
- screwdrivers;
- install;
- new crankshaft liners;
- cleaning lady Wynn.
New car engine crankshaft
When choosing liners for the engine shaft, Honda parts should be preferred. They must be new, as used parts do not drive for a long time.
Having prepared the tools, you can proceed to the first stage. First, we take the car to the inspection hole and remove the normal oil pan. Remove the bracket and seals from the cylinder block. After that, we dismantle the transmission cover and the joint with the timing chain. Next, it is necessary to note the relative position of the connecting rods relative to the covers. We unscrew the nuts that hold the connecting rod cover and remove the cover with the liner. Then, one by one, disconnect the connecting rods from the axis, move them up and remove all connecting rod bushings and covers.
Next, you need to loosen the bolts that hold the bearing caps. Remove covers and loosen thrust rings. After that, we remove the crankshaft from the Accord engine and prepare the CC7 replacement part for installation. As a preparation, wash the shaft with a cleaner and blow with compressed air. Then the shaft is carefully installed on the oil pan, and the entire disassembled structure is assembled in the reverse order. Do not forget to put new liners, otherwise the crankshaft of the CC7 engine will very quickly become unusable due to strong friction.
3 New optics for the eighth Accord
Despite the fact that the body of the Accord 8 has a modern look and is made of quality parts, after restyling the car looks much more original. The first element that lends itself to external tuning is the headlights of the car. They can be tinted, or you can go further and change their appearance by decorating the outlines of the lights with LEDs.
First you need to remove the headlights from the car. This is necessary to replace some light bulbs. We completely take out the optics, after which it is necessary to divide its integral structure into separate elements. The best way to do this is with a hair dryer – heat the lanterns with hot air, after which they will peel off from each other. After that, the removed headlights should cool completely. Next, you need to prepare the optics for restyling: we clean the Honda headlights from the old sealant, wipe them with alcohol and shake off the remaining stains.
Honda optics restyling Next, we proceed directly to restyling. We take the sealant and apply a thin layer along the edge of the metal part of the lantern. After that, you need to attach both parts of the headlight so that half of the glass is on top. We turn the headlights upside down and leave it in this position for several hours.
After some time, clean the optics with alcohol and reinstall. The last stage of restyling will be gluing the diode tape. To do this, clean and degrease the upper part of the Accord body above the seat of the standard optics. We apply a thin layer of superglue and apply diodes. We connect the wiring of the latter through adapters to the standard wires of the headlights.
4 Honda stock grille replacement
As an addition to the restyling of the Honda headlights, you can replace the stock grille. You can use part of SS7 itself for this. The latter's mesh is made of steel, rather than plastic like the Accord 8. In addition, fifth-generation Honda grilles have smaller openings to keep debris out of the radiator.
Replacing the original grille In addition to the CC7 grille, we will need pliers, self-tapping screws and superglue. First you need to remove the Accord front bumper and carefully clean the places of its fastenings. To do this, clean the surface with soapy water and a soft cloth, and then degrease the case. Next, you need to disassemble the usual grille. After that, also wash and degrease the surface.
In the next step of reshaping, you need to connect the two grids together. It's easy to see that the grille on the CC7 is slightly larger than on the Accord 8. We need to trim it a little, and this is best done with pliers. Carefully cut out a large mesh, but not to the size of the previous one, but leaving 1 cm on each side for fasteners. After that, degrease the grate and begin to attach it to the car. To do this, we screw self-tapping screws into the holes of standard fasteners, and for better fixation we apply a thin, even layer of superglue to the edges of the case under the grille.
As you can see, the CC7 of the fifth generation of the Accord helped us a lot with the internal tuning and restyling of its “heir”. In addition to the parts used, other Accord elements may be used. This is a gearbox and steering column with a better power steering and throttle. The main thing is to try not to use worn parts, otherwise you will not get the desired tuning result.
