Ford is developing a new Everest: SUV caught by photo spies
The next generation mid-size SUV is due in 2022. So far, the model is undergoing road tests.
Ford created the Everest SUV based on the Ranger pickup truck, which is also intended for the North American and European markets, and the truck is also sold in Australia. In turn, an SUV based on it is intended mainly for the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, and in India, a mid-size frame SUV is known as Endeavor.
The model has been produced since 2003, in 2015 Ford Everest changed generation. The company is currently developing the next generation SUV, which is likely to enter the market in the second half of 2022 (as a 2023 model year car). Note that the “donor” – the Ranger pickup – is now also in the process of developing a new generation, the Americans intend to present it before the end of this year.
While the presentation of the “third” Ford Everest is still quite far away, so far the company continues to test prototypes on public roads. One of them was caught by photo spies during the “summer” tests in the southern part of Europe (despite the fact that the model is not for sale in this region). The photos were shared with us by the Spanish edition of motor.es. The car in the pictures is hidden behind camouflage, but despite this, the frames showed not only a disguised appearance, but also the interior of the future novelty.
Judging by the pictures, the exterior will largely echo the appearance of the next generation Ranger pickup truck (we haven't seen it either, only today Ford published pictures and video of the car in a masking film). Expect the front of the new Everest to also take a lot from the brand's best-selling US pickup truck, the Ford F-150. In particular, we are talking about head optics, which will be equipped with the same large “brackets” of LED daytime running lights on the sides.
Photos of the cabin show the interior of the still apparently prototype, where a pair of rotary controls are visible on the central tunnel, acting as an automatic transmission selector and a traction system control. An electric parking brake is also noticeable. The multifunctional steering wheel used in the interior of the prototype also differs from the current version. It is worth mentioning that many elements on the way to the conveyor can still seriously change – while we are observing, rather, a “semi-finished product”.
Information about the “stuffing” of the future SUV, as well as the next Ranger pickup truck, is not yet available. We previously reported that in Europe the truck may subsequently have an all-electric version (probably in 2024). It is expected that the novelty will have a more modern multimedia system, an expanded set of security systems, which will include blind spot monitoring, all-round cameras and other functions.
More recently, it became known that Ford still decided to close its plants in India due to losses and weak demand. This will turn out to be bad news for the local Everest – Endeavor, which will stop production in the first half of next year. Recall that a few years ago the company decided to curtail the production of passenger cars and recently, now only the commercial model Transit comes off the assembly line.
