Geely Tugella or Mitsubishi Outlander? Fight for height
Test Geely Tugella against Mitsubishi Outlander will be interesting. Geely releases new items one after another, Geely Tugella is the brand's most powerful and equipped all-wheel drive. But for him they asked for an unprecedented price for the Chinese, as if probing the market. Will we accept, will we not accept the pedigree from Volvo? They say both the platform and the engine are from the Volvo XC40. It seems to me that Tugella will go his own way, and we will soon stop thinking about Volvo. Dear merciless war with competitors, not looking at nameplates.
The current Mitsubishi Outlander body appeared when we could only compare the Geely brand with VAZ products and it is not known who would win. And the more interesting it is to find out which of the cars will win today?
As always, we gave the contestants a number of difficult exercises.
Dynamics (acceleration from standstill, acceleration from the move).
It's not entirely fair to compare the dynamics of a 2.0 turbo unit and a 3-liter Japanese aspirated engine, but they cross regularly on the road, which is why we conducted a full range of tests.
When starting from a standstill, the situation fully reflects the factory data, adjusted for the abundance of snow on the roads. Gili Tugella promises to sprint to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. We managed to achieve the figure of 7.7, which is quite fast. Outlander GT exactly fulfilled the stated standard of 8.7 s. The result is good, but this is Mitsubishi's defeat.
When starting from the move (from 60 km / h), the situation developed intriguingly. We started from standard mode and from sport mode. Tugell's settings are selected with a washer on the tunnel. For Mitsubishi, these are respectively Drive and Low on the machine selector. The standard Tugella is expectedly faster, the shift time coincides with the turbo pause and a second after pressing the gas both cars jump forward, only Geely does it a little more perky.
In Mitsubishi, acceleration is not bad, but the main thing is to hold the steering wheel firmly, otherwise the car will shy away to the right. It affects the age of the chassis from the Lancer and the motor is too large for it. Not for nothing, the versions of Evolution have been greatly enhanced. But by activating the “Sport” mode, the Outlander GT was able to recoup. The box selects a lower gear in advance, holding the tachometer needle in the region of 3000-4000 rpm. And a sharp press on the gas allows you to instantly get a response, of course with a jump to the right. Geely is late due to the turbopause. So the starts from the move were equally given to the opponents. Here is a draw.
Circle on the crossroad
Gili Tugella crossed the crossroads briskly: the turbo engine and the 8-speed automatic work in harmony. Handling was not a big issue. The steering wheel is moderately sensitive, the Chinese does not allow noticeable demolitions. But on potholes at high speed, be careful. The suspension is stiff, does not hold bumps from the road, the rear passenger complained about breakdowns. On smooth pavement, we did not notice any discomfort, even the Chinese swallows traffic policemen, but it is clearly not designed for cross-country activities.
The lap on the cross track is won by the Mitsubishi Outlander. It has more suspension travel, it does not allow noticeable breakdowns, it spares the rear passenger. The Japanese on potholes is noticeably more comfortable. The atmospheric engine and 6-speed automatic allow you to maintain high speeds in the desired gear and provide excellent dynamics.

Interior rating from the front.
From the front, the Tugella looks more modern and scores points, plus it's more economical.
Never before has the assessment of salons of similarly priced cars passed so rapidly with us. Geely is the first Chinese to have comfortable seats. There are quibbles about the convenience of multimedia and the use of climate control. But the quality of finishes, the abundance of options rolls over. The Tugella even has a heating and cooling function for one of the cup holders – space.

The Geely Tugella has enough room in the back, but not enough to beat the Japanese. But it’s beautiful, all the necessary functions are pillow heating, two yusbi. And beauty is a sunroof.
Behind the Outlander is expectedly more comfortable. This is partly due to the higher roofline and classic crossover silhouette, but even in length it has more room. The central tunnel is smaller, and the backrests are adjustable in tilt angle.
Trunk
With the trunk, the Chinese also lost. In terms of numbers, Mitsubishi's advantage is not too great, but a full-size spare wheel is hidden under the floor, and most importantly, you can load things much higher than the curtain. The Tugella has much lower cargo capacity. In addition, Outlander can be 7-seater.

On the slide, we tried different modes and gave the participants several attempts to discover the possibilities of all-wheel drive and the operation of the electronics that control it. The main result – both rowed honestly, actively and did not overheat: a draw
Before the decisive exercise – passing the obstacle, the Outlander was in the lead with an advantage of one point.
Passing an obstacle in the form of our branded 200 tire is always unpredictable. We thought the Outlander would win, it has more clearance in terms of characteristics. Oddly enough, the ground clearance turned out to be higher for Geely Tugell.
In the end – a draw.
A draw for Mitsubishi Outlander is tantamount to defeat, and for Tugella a notable success. I find myself thinking that the Chinese auto industry is beginning to establish itself in our market as a full-fledged competitor to the Japanese and Europeans. It's good that we will have a wider choice, the only pity is that Lada could have been in his place, but so far she has not been able to.
