History of the best-selling model from Audi

In 1994, the legendary Audi 80 was replaced on the assembly line with a new model. In addition to external and internal changes, the car received a new name, Audi A4. Since then, the car itself has been constantly updated, and the name remains the same.
As a phenomenon, the Audi A4 is a direct descendant of the same legendary Audi 80, which even now has quite a few fans both in our country and abroad. A reliable and comfortable car of the late 80s and early 90s immediately won the hearts of millions of people.
A4 can proudly be considered a descendant of the 80s, not for nothing, A4 is famous for the highest production volume compared to other models of the brand.
In total, throughout its history, it was presented in 4 bodies:
- sedan
- station wagon
- cabriolet
- allroad
The station wagon and the sedan have as many as 5 generations behind them, and in the 1st there were already 2 restylings for both the sedan and the station wagon.
The engine displacement for the updated 80 was in a wide range from 1.6L to 2.8L – the spread was for every taste. The presence of the hatch was an option under the order, and they were not installed in stock.
The engine in the A4 was both petrol and diesel, and the latter in a volume of 1.9L had excellent dynamics in comparison with competitors of that time, and at the same time showed economical consumption.
The sedan and station wagon were presented with front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive, which has been actively implemented in Audi models since 1994 as well. Transmission to choose from: manual transmission or automatic transmission. It was the A4 that became an equivalent competitor in the D segment, namely, cars like the BMW 3-er and Mercedes-Benz C-class.
Below is the freshest body of 2019, which is a restyling of the 5th generation. The new radiator grill rebuilds the body from the previous ones, as it completely changes the appearance of the car. Over time, the car has increased in weight and length – from 4479 mm to 4703 mm in the last generation, and the weight from 1185 kg to 1470 kg.
The other 2 bodies will be considered separately. I like them especially.
A4 cabrio
The first convertible based on the Audi Coupe was announced back in 1989, but did not immediately enter the production line. But since 2002, it began to be produced already in parallel with the body of the B6 sedan. The soft top of the roof structure had an electro-hydraulic drive and folded at the touch of a button in 24 seconds.
Later, the Audi S4 and Audi RS4 cabriolets appeared with more powerful technical equipment. These are real urban sports cars for thrill-seekers.
A4 allroad quattro
A separate A4 allroad quattro series is based on the A4 Avant station wagon. The car is distinguished by a 37 mm increased ground clearance, a large wheelbase and an extended track.
The facelift easily went through the details of the body: updating the optics, changing the shape of the radiator grille, which is getting closer and closer to the 6-coal one, as we already see in the second generation. The remaining changes concerned engine power and interior pumping.
The second generation is already very different from its predecessors. Here is a sharp change in the proportions of the grille, the shape of the headlights, the angles of the bevel of the hood. The space for foglights has changed, and the metal trim on the front bumper began to cover its entire perimeter. At the rear, the body has also changed – the optics have become more voluminous and multi-layered, the running lights are in the form of lightning, and the rear fog lights have moved higher.
Well, fresh restyling follows the general trends of the brand: an increase in the space between the teeth of the grille, a sharper slope of the hood forward, the expanders switched to gloss.
The A4 allroad quattro occupies a special position in the A4 series, as evidenced by its outstanding appearance and increased cross-country ability. The combination of unusual qualities is also marked by the Audi RS4 Avant, which, with an excess of 450 hp. remains a roomy and practical car of the line. For all the provocativeness of the engine, driving on such a machine remains safe, thanks to a well-thought-out braking system and technologies that contribute to the concentration of attention on the road.
