Mercedes-AMG is preparing a novelty: the timing of the premiere of the “two-door” SL has been announced
The presentation of the German brand car will take place next week. The interior of the sports car has already been declassified, but the appearance of the novelty is still kept secret.
The German company has been producing the open-top SL model since 1954 (the index stands for Super Leicht, which means “superlight”). Note that over the past decade, 2012 was the peak year for the model, so European dealers sold 3937 cars. For comparison, only 885 units were sold in “dock-2019”, and following the results of the crisis last year, 505 cars were sold, which is almost 43% less than a year earlier.
Now the company has prepared a new generation SL, its preview will take place in a few days. As it became known today, the seventh “two-door” generation will debut on October 28. Despite the fact that less than a week has passed before the presentation, the Germans still keep the appearance of the next SL a secret. As previously announced, the new generation model will now be fully integrated into the Mercedes-AMG range.
The car will have a soft top (metal in the current version) and two rows of seats, but the second row is more suitable for placing sports bags, because people whose height does not exceed 1.5 meters of space can comfortably sit in them. At the same time, there is practically no legroom for passengers sitting in the back, and the seat backs are almost vertical.
Recall that the previously detailed interior of the new SL in Mercedes-AMG was designated as “hyper-analogous”. Inside, you can see round ventilation flaps – four of these “turbines” are located on the front panel. In addition, the 12.3-inch virtual “dashboard” is visually recessed into a niche. Presumably, in this way the company decided to make it so that when driving with the roof open, the display was visible, and not the glow on it.
The touchscreen of the MBUX infotainment system (its 11.9-inch diagonal) has also been protected from glare. The system works in such a way that it changes the angle of inclination, and this happens automatically: a separate electric drive is responsible for ensuring that the touch screen is in a more vertical position when the roof of the new SL is folded and when the driver raises the hood, the display itself “folds” into the front side panel.
The seventh generation Mercedes-AMG SL will be lighter than the previous one (the weight of the current version of the SL 63 AMG DSG is 1845 kg). The new “two-door” will receive an AMG 4Matic + all-wheel drive system, it is also known that the basic version will have a four-cylinder engine under the hood.
There is no official information about the “stuffing” yet. According to preliminary data, the model can be equipped with a hybrid power plant, which will be based on a two-liter turbo engine, paired with an electric motor. The total power of such a system can be 578 hp. The V8 engine is expected to remain in this lineup, while the high-end will be a plug-in hybrid, with a total output that could exceed 840 hp.
The next generation of SL equipment will include: head-up display, 64-color contour lighting; the choice will be between full leather upholstery (including two-tone versions) or a combination of leather and microfiber with contrasting stitching.
