Audi e-tron GT quattro and Audi RS e-tron GT – never seen before
Audi is now electrified and ready to race on the fast track: according to the manufacturer, the E-tron GT is a Gran Turismo and an Audi like no other. The all-electric sports car was launched in mid-February 2021 in two versions: the Audi E-tron GT quattro2 and the RS E-tron GT2. The RS model is Audi's dynamic flagship of electromobility. In fact, with 646 horsepower Rs, the E-tron Gt takes on Tesla from Audi and Vw Group by combining supercar performance with the ability to drive zero emissions up to 472 kilometers, or 488 km for the 530-horsepower version of the e-tron Gt quattro.
An Audi like this has never seen the light of day: almost flat as a flounder, the four-door coupe, 1.96 meters wide, 4.99 meters long and just 1.41 meters high, is a living embodiment of dynamics.
According to Marc Lichte, head of design at Audi, the new E-tron Gt is “the most beautiful car I've ever designed.” It features clean lines and technical solutions designed for electromobility, such as the new front grille. The front end features a single-frame as a distinguishing feature of the electric drive, which can be ordered to match the color of the vehicle. The low and wide grille is integrated into the overall color. Wheels range from 19 to 21 inches. The volume of the rear luggage compartment is 405 liters, the RS model has 350 liters.
Thanks to electric drive technology, the front of the car has become flat, strongly curved fenders gripping the front hood. At the front, the Audi Matrix laser headlights (range up to 600 meters with high beam) stand out, which have become a real hallmark of the high-end models of the Audi brand. The sports car is available to Audi fans in nine different colors. In addition to ibis white plain white, there are metallic or pearl effect colors: askari blue, daytona grey, silver, kemora grey, myth black, suzuki grey, tactical green and tango red.
Landing in the cabin is low, but comfortable. The interior has been designed around the driver, with a clear separation between the two front seats created by a large center console, low-mounted air vents and climate control. The 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster is clearly separated from the pilot-oriented 10.1-inch MMI Touch infotainment display. For interior upholstery, synthetic leather and Kasdade fabric were used, partly sourced from the same recycled materials also used by Econyl for flooring and rugs.
The two versions of the E-tron GT differ significantly in performance, both equipped with a bridge motor and 93 kWh liquid-cooled batteries with 800 volt technology, but the power levels are very different. E-tron GT quattro develops 476 hp and 630 Nm, while the RS reaches 588 hp. and 830 Nm. 238 hp front engine identical for both, but the rear produces 435 hp. on GT and 456 hp on the RS and is linked to a two-speed transmission that works similarly to the Taycan, providing both a better start from a standstill and the ability to cruise at high speeds.
The GT reaches 100 km/h from standstill in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 245 km/h, while the RS achieves 3.3 seconds and 250 km/h respectively.
At the moment, Audi claims a maximum autonomy of 488 km in the Wltp cycle for the GT quattro and 472 km for the RS. The batteries can be charged with an 11kW on-board charger or with fast systems up to 270kW: the latter can recover up to 100km in five minutes and go from 5% to 80% charge in 23 minutes.
In normal driving, when the accelerator is released, the sailing mode is activated, controlled by the efficiency prediction aid; in fast dynamic mode, energy recovery is immediately activated (up to 0.3 g of deceleration), which can be adjusted to two levels of intensity using the steering column switches.
The car stands well on the road, the steering is precise, all-wheel steering is present on board.
All of the standard assistance systems are available, including blind spot warning, a parking camera, an excellent HD rear view camera, and lane departure warning.
The powerful Bang & Olufsen system indulges your ears, while the huge panoramic glass roof (optionally in lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic) provides plenty of air space. There is a wireless cell phone charger and additional USB C ports.
This is definitely not a car for a novice driver or retired neighbors, this car is a weapon. Prices for two versions: the Audi e-tron GT quattro2 is available with a base price of 99,800 euros and the RS e-tron GT2 from 138,200 euros.
