Azerbaijan will produce SUVs
Production of SUVs will start in Azerbaijan from March 2021.
Emin Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of Azermash OJSC, told Report to Azerbaijani agency.
According to him, there is a great demand for “jeeps” in the country, which prompted the company to start their production.
“We have already begun negotiations with a number of foreign car manufacturers, we have preliminary agreements. Cars are planned to be produced at the Neftchala Automobile Plant,” he said.
The price of SUVs is still unknown.
I note that Azermash already produces cars in Azerbaijan under the Khazar brand. There are several versions of this car – Khazar SD and LX have a basic package, and Khazar LD is considered a luxury version of the car. Khazar SD costs 15,500 manats (695 thousand conventional units or $9.1 thousand), Khazar LX – 13,500 manats (605 thousand conventional units or $7.9 thousand), and Khazar LD – 17,000 manats (762.7 thousand conventional units). or $10 thousand).
Also in March of this year, the head of the company, Emin Akhundov, announced plans to produce Khazar CC premium cars.

The current Khazar LD, SD and LX are assembled at a joint Azerbaijani-Iranian automobile plant (Iran Khodro is an Iranian shareholder) in the Neftchala industrial district (about 180 km south of Baku). Based on the Iran Khodro Dena and Dena+ models.

By the way, this is the second arrival of Iran Khodro to the Azerbaijani market. The company had a bad experience in 2005-2010s. Then, at the plant in the city of Shemakha, the company assembled AzSamand cars based, respectively, on Samand. The plant closed, perhaps for lack of demand, because only 1500 cars were reported to be produced.

It is difficult to say how popular the cars of Azermash or the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant are. Azermash has produced 4,000 vehicles since 2018, and the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant has produced over 5,000 vehicles under the NAZ-Lifan brand since 2010 (data for 2018).
