Family rogue: Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in off-road tuning
The new Land Cruiser is one of the most exciting new releases this year. Among other things, it received a factory off-road modification GR Sport, but we decided to introduce an even more extreme version.
The new generation of the popular Japanese SUV was presented in June this year. The long-awaited Land Cruiser 300 has replaced the 200th model on the assembly line, which has been in production for almost 14 years – since 2007. By the way, the current market was the largest in Europe for the “two hundred” – for example, more than 8 thousand copies were sold in 2018. In the last year, due to the pandemic, sales have fallen markedly (about 2 thousand units were sold in 2020), but the appearance of a novelty should have a positive effect on the situation, especially considering that the Land Cruiser 300 will now be offered in the off-road version of GR Sport. It has a number of visual differences, but they are not so significant, so we have depicted a variant with more significant alterations.
The Land Cruiser 300 shown in the renders received increased ground clearance, not least achieved by installing large wheels with high-profile “toothy” tires. A modified bumper appeared in front with additional lighting, protection and a winch. Also, the SUV is equipped with a snorkel – the engine intake pipe coming out of the front wing and located along the A-pillar. In addition, the rear bumper has been modified, which now has a pair of additional towing hooks.
The new Land Cruiser is built on a ladder frame, which has become stiffer compared to the previous generation due to a redesign: the main part of the frame is now a monolithic frame, and the crossbars are attached to it using laser welding. The frame platform was called GA-F and entered into the concept of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global modular architecture. At the same time, the dimensions of the car in comparison with the “two hundred” practically did not change.
