Initially, the Honda Elysion single cab was an independent model for the Japanese market, but later moved to China, and the second generation debuted here in 2015, which became only a more luxurious version of the Honda Odyssey minivan. The fact is that in China, these two models are produced by different factories: Odyssey is a product of the GAC-Honda joint venture, and Elysion is part of the Dongfeng-Honda production program. The evolution of this pair follows the same lines as the original Japanese minivan Honda Odyssey, updated a year ago, but with its own characteristics.

Still 4951 mm Honda Elysion differs from the Odyssey in other bumpers and a larger grille: during restyling, all these elements were updated. But the main external sign is the same: the Elysion has a black plastic edge on the door handle, which the Odyssey does not have.

The updated interior of two-seater minivans is almost identical. There is another front panel, a protruding multimedia system screen (previously it was inscribed in the console) and new instruments with an analog speedometer and a large color screen. Interestingly, both Chinese models now have a push-button transmission control panel, while Japan retains the traditional lever.

The back of the “Chinese” sedan is richer. Separate second-row seats here can have folding footrests, heating, electric backrest and huge center armrests with built-in tables – there are no such bells and whistles in the Japanese Honda Odyssey. In the third row – a simple sofa, but it can be “folded” back, turning it into a picnic seat: the back and pillow change roles.

The “Chinese” have their own characteristics in terms of power units – both Odyssey and Elysion are just hybrids here! Such a power plant appeared in the lineup five years ago, but even in Japan, Honda still offers versions with an atmospheric 2.4 (175 hp) and a CVT.

The e:HEV hybrid system consists of a 2.0 petrol engine (145 hp, 175 Nm) that has a geometric compression ratio of 13:1 and runs on the Atkinson economy cycle. And two electric motors work with it. One is connected to the internal combustion engine and operates in generator mode, and the second rotates the front wheels. Its power is 184 hp and 315 Nm. Most often, such a hybrid moves directly on the electric drive (the internal combustion engine drives only the generator) and only at high speeds, when the efficiency of the electric motor decreases, the clutch connects the gasoline engine directly to the wheels. There is no gearbox, and the system reaches 215 hp. Hybrid minivans accelerate to “hundreds” in 10.2 seconds and have low fuel consumption (5.9 l / 100 km).

Updated minivans Honda Odyssey and Honda Elysion will enter the Chinese market by the end of December. But if Odyssey costs from 36 thousand dollars, then for Elysion they ask for at least 46 thousand, because its standard security is richer.
