Rivian R1, i.e. 2020 – Rivian’s new electric SUV

The new R1 electric SUV, that is from the Rivian launch Rivian Automotive unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, after the closest relative, the electric Rivian pickup R1T, also marked its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Rivian R1 review, i.e. 2019-2020 – photo, video, price, equipment and specifications of the new electric SUV with a 7-seater interior and innovative technologies (4 electric, 3 battery options, maximum power 180 kW / h, all-wheel drive, air suspension, the ability to travel up to 660 miles on a single charge).

The price of the new Rivian R1 electric crossover, that is, in the US market, will be from $ 65,000. It will only be new to the local market until mid-2021, while sales of the Rivian R1T pickup will begin in 2020. By the way, the first company, Rivian Automotive, will offer American motorists the most expensive version of the Rivian R1 model, that is, with a 5-seater cab and the most capacious 180 kWh battery (no word on the price yet). Only in 2022 will the basic version of the electric off-road vehicle with the lowest 105 kWh battery and a passenger compartment designed for seven be available.

As the main competitor for the Rivian R1 model, that is, of course, is the Tesla Model X crossover. Sorry, but it is impossible to do a comparative test drive of the Rivian R1 SUV, that is, the Tesla Model X crossover, for the sole reason that the new Rivian automobiles exist in only two copies (a couple of prototypes for sea trials). In fact, very interesting, the true power of the new electric car in real conditions.

Technically, the R1, i.e. SUV, and the Rivian Rivian pickup R1T are identical, only the reserve SUV is on average 20 km more. In the arsenal of the model, an improved platform with the original name "skateboard": 4 electric motors (each of which is capable of a maximum power of up to 147 kW (200 hp)) from a separate control unit (one for each wheel), which allows the car to be equipped with all-wheel drive (traction vector control for driving on normal roads or simulated differential locks for off-road use), a 105 to 180 kWh battery and air suspension.

In the basic version, the electric 7-seat car has 105 kWh batteries, the total power of the electric motors is 407 hp. with. 560 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 4.9 seconds, from 0 to 160 mph to 12.5 km / h is about 386 km.

A more advanced version can take 7 people, but comes with a 135 kWh battery and delight powerful electric motors – 764 HP 1120 Nm. Acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 km / h – 3.0 s, from 0 to 160 km / h – in less than 7.0 seconds, and a range of about 500 km.

The top version defaults to a 5-seater saloon, but the most capacious 180 kWh battery. The power of 4 engines is 710 hp. with. 1120 Nm. The dynamics of acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 3.2 seconds, from 0 to 160 km in less than 8.0 hours, the cruising range is about 660 km.

Top speed on all versions of Rivian R1 i.e. is 200 km/h (electronically limited).

• The external dimensions of the Rivian 2019-2020 R1 body, that is, noticeably smaller than the Rivian R1T truck platform, will be 5040 mm long, 2015 mm wide, 1820 mm high with a wheelbase of 3075 mm.

With a curb weight, the electric jeep is only 20kg (2650kg) less than the corresponding electric pickup truck (2670kg), and the load capacity is correspondingly greater for the same 20kg.

• The body of the electric off-road news is noticeably shorter than the body of a pickup truck and has the best geometric characteristics: the angle of entry is 34 degrees, the angle of longitudinal patency is 29 degrees, the exit angle is 30 degrees.
• Depth of overcoming water obstacles up to 1000 mm.
• Thanks to the pneumatic support in the suspension, the ground clearance (ground clearance) is adjustable and varies from a minimum value of 205 mm (parking mode) to 365 mm (off-road mode). Incidentally, the corresponding pick up these figures are 5 mm smaller.

With the most important advanced technical stuffing, the company’s second model, the Rivian Rivian R1 car electric SUV, that is, is understandable. So you go for the exterior and interior of the car.

The outer shell of the new 7-seater electric crossover may be original, but rather tasteless, and sometimes even boring. The front end shares the same key with the truck (a LED strip of daytime running lights across the entire width of the body, ovals, LED headlights (journalists have already called the Rivian car headlight model "stadium" light) and a compact bumper with LED foglights.

The new SUV showcases a long bonnet, huge quadrophonia wheel arches filled with large 22-inch wheels, large rectangular doors with a high sill line, a perfectly flat roof and a neat rear.

The rear is concise to the limit: a compact rectangle bumper and trunk lid, with LED strip taillights repeating the style of LED strip daytime running lights on the front of the body.

To be honest, against the backdrop of the new Tesla Model X, the electric Rivian R1, that is, looks like an ugly duckling next to the Swan. We add that last year the world’s many stylish electric crossover with a bright appearance: upgrade ME7 drive, Audi e-electron, Mercedes-Benz OKH, leading ideal, NIO ES8. And again… only it seems that the Rivian R1, that is, when viewed from the side of the Commander Stark track jeep crossovers and the Grand Commander jeep?

The interior of the electric car is a 7-seater car with three rows of seats and a seating formula 2 + 3 + 2 (in the maximum configuration with the most capacious batteries, the third row is devoid of and by default it is a 5-seater). The trunk volume of the 7-seater version is modest (the manufacturer unfortunately does not indicate exact figures), but in the presence of a hidden compartment in the underground volume of 180 liters. There is, however, a front luggage compartment with a usable volume of 330 liters, like a pickup truck, but the pass-through 350-liter trunk of the gear tunnel of an SUV will not be planted, but will be the only advantage of the pickup platform.

If you do not take into account the last, third row of seats (only children of primary school age can comfortably fit in the back), the interior of the SUV will be identical to the cabin. Plenty of space, both in the first and second row, high-quality materials are used, and offers a lot of modern equipment. The model is a virtual dashboard, a modern multimedia system with a large color touch screen that has almost all the functions (media, telephone, navigation, climate control, settings and accessories), route, autopilot and other modern features.
