The new R1 electric SUV, that is from the Rivian launch Rivian Automotive unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, after the closest relative, the electric Rivian pickup R1T, also marked its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. By the way, the first company, Rivian Automotive, will offer American motorists the most expensive version of the Rivian R1 model, that is, with a 5-seater cab and the most capacious 180 kWh battery (no word on the price yet). Only in 2022 will the basic version of the electric off-road vehicle with the lowest 105 kWh battery and a passenger compartment designed for seven be available.

As the main competitor for the Rivian R1 model, that is, of course, is the Tesla Model X crossover. Sorry, but it is impossible to do a comparative test drive of the Rivian R1 SUV, that is, the Tesla Model X crossover, for the sole reason that the new Rivian automobiles exist in only two copies (a couple of prototypes for sea trials). In the basic version, the electric 7-seat car has 105 kWh batteries, the total power of the electric motors is 407 hp. with. 560 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 4.9 seconds, from 0 to 160 mph to 12.5 km / h is about 386 km.

A more advanced version can take 7 people, but comes with a 135 kWh battery and delight powerful electric motors – 764 HP 1120 Nm. Acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 km / h – 3.0 s, from 0 to 160 km / h – in less than 7.0 seconds, and a range of about 500 km.

The top version defaults to a 5-seater saloon, but the most capacious 180 kWh battery. The power of 4 engines is 710 hp. with. 1120 Nm. The dynamics of acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 3.2 seconds, from 0 to 160 km in less than 8.0 hours, the cruising range is about 660 km.

The interior of the electric car is a 7-seater car with three rows of seats and a seating formula 2 + 3 + 2 (in the maximum configuration with the most capacious batteries, the third row is devoid of and by default it is a 5-seater). The trunk volume of the 7-seater version is modest (the manufacturer unfortunately does not indicate exact figures), but in the presence of a hidden compartment in the underground volume of 180 liters. There is, however, a front luggage compartment with a usable volume of 330 liters, like a pickup truck, but the pass-through 350-liter trunk of the gear tunnel of an SUV will not be planted, but will be the only advantage of the pickup platform.

If you do not take into account the last, third row of seats (only children of primary school age can comfortably fit in the back), the interior of the SUV will be identical to the cabin. Plenty of space, both in the first and second row, high-quality materials are used, and offers a lot of modern equipment. The model is a virtual dashboard, a modern multimedia system with a large color touch screen that has almost all the functions (media, telephone, navigation, climate control, settings and accessories), route, autopilot and other modern features.
