Update without “air”: Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 electric vehicles have increased range

Peugeot has made a small update to its e-208 (sedan) and e-2008 (crossover) subcompact electric cars, resulting in 22 and 25 km more mileage, respectively — not much, but something.

Range per charge is the most important feature for an electric car, so even a small improvement is welcome. Some manufacturers (Tesla and Porsche, for example) have learned how to increase the range of their “electric trains” by optimizing software, which is a control program that a customer can download “over the air” and get bonus kilometers.

The license plate will not work with the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, design changes were required to increase the range: new class A + tires with reduced rolling resistance were installed (16″ for Peugeot e-208 and 17″ for Peugeot and -2008) the gear ratio of the gearbox coupled to the electric motor has been changed, and the climate control system is integrated with a humidity sensor (located at the top of the windshield) – this will allow you to activate the recirculation mode more often and, as a result, less energy is spent on cooling / heating the outside air.

Peugeot is 2008

These simple innovations made it possible to increase the WLTP range for the Peugeot e-208 sedan from 340 to 362 km, for the Peugeot e-2008 crossover from 320 to 345 km. At the same time, the manufacturer claims that in urban operation at an ambient temperature close to zero, the increase can reach 40 km.

Otherwise, everything is the same: both twin models on the CMP platform are equipped with a single electric motor on the front axle, which develops a maximum power of 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm. The 50kWh battery supports charging up to 100kWh – at this power, it can be fully charged in 1 hour 13 minutes, up to 80% in 30 minutes.

We add that both models debuted in 2019 and have very successful relatives with internal combustion engines: the Peugeot 2008 crossover managed to become an absolute bestseller in the European market in October, and the Peugeot 208 took fourth place (details in a separate note).

But in particular, electric versions are not as in demand as Peugeot marketers would like. This was facilitated by sales statistics for plug-in models (electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids) in Europe for the first three quarters of this year, prepared by CleanTechnica.

As you can see, the Peugeot e-2008 didn't even make it into the top 20, with the Peugeot e-208 coming in 11th overall (29,661 units sold) and 8th in electric vehicles, not to mention less long-range vehicles. (320 km on Ricarica), but the more elegant Fiat 500e (30,922 sold). In short, even a banal upgrade is not suitable for electric “lions”, and more serious changes could be timed to coincide with the planned restyling.
