Another five-door, this time with an electric boot, will be able to fill the Bavarian brand's lineup at the end of 2024.

Like many other European car manufacturers, BMW continues to invest in the development and production of electric vehicles. As a result of Covid 2020, sales of the brand in the old world market fell by 18.3% to 673,724 cars. Last year, the results grew: 625,941 units were sold in January-November, which is 3.7% less than in the first 11 months of last year. Meanwhile, the Bavarians continue to prepare new elements.

The company is currently developing the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and its all-electric version. In addition, the Bavarians, apparently, are also working on the creation of a station wagon model and a “green” sports “five-door” BMW i5 Touring. According to Spanish publication motor.es, the i5 electric station wagon could arrive at the end of 2024.

There is a very modest selection of so-called family-friendly, practical and spacious electric premium cars on the market today. Thus, the Porsche brand offers the Taycan Sport Turismo. In the future, the segment will be replenished with the Audi A6 e-tron Avant, and the representative of the so-called “big German three” BMW i5 Touring is likely to compete with him.

While the appearance of the alleged novelty of the Bavarian brand is kept secret. The designer Motor.es offered his version of what the BMW i5 Touring will look like. The exterior, or at least the front end, will be the same as the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, which is also under development.

The car should have narrower and already fully LED optics than the current one. Also, in electric versions, the place of the traditional branded “nostrils” of the radiator grille will be taken by a plug of a similar shape (in the style of i4 and iX3). Several rather large air intakes will be integrated into the lower part of the front bumper, and a hatch is located in the left wing, behind which the battery charging connector is hidden.

It is assumed that inside the new BMW 5 Series and 5 Series Touring there will be no differences, but in their electric modifications there will be more legroom for the driver and passengers (due to the lack of a central tunnel and a floor plate). It is expected that the “degree of practicality”, despite the presence of a battery, will be the same as that of internal combustion engine counterparts.

Probably, the Bavarians will offer a set of installations for the BMW i5 sedan and station wagon. According to the publication, the eDrive40 and eDrive45 versions will have a single electric motor located on the rear axle, while the xDrive40 and M50 variants will have a pair of electric motors (one on each axle). The maximum power of the all-wheel drive unit can reach 580 hp. It is possible that the “green” station wagon will be equipped with a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery, and the maximum cruising range without recharging will be 700 km.

Recall that now the Bavarian brand continues to prepare for the imminent release of its electric flagship: in the middle of last month, new photos of the BMW i7 were published.
